Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: ON THE NOD(8)
Jockey: Glen HATT - Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

The sole three-year old in this contest, ON THE NOD is coming down nicely in the ratings and he could bounce back to his best form today. The son of Atso had some satisfactory performances as a juvenile last season but has been below-par, this term. However, he showed signs of progress over this c & d last time, despite finding traffic problems. He rises in class today but has a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and gets the services of in-form Glen Hatt.

Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD - Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

This is another very competitive contest but SOUTH KENSINGTON loves this c & d and he is a lightly raced five-year old, so is still improving. He may have just failed to stay the mile in a feature last time but had excellent form before that. He has been successful against this class before and he should go very close in this line-up.

Jockey: Kevin SHEA - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

The decision to race the top class mare, WELWITSCHIA for an extra season has already been vindicated. The Mike de Kock inmate has improved with each of her three runs this season and she ran on well to win the Diadem Stakes over this c & d, three weeks ago. Her conditioner has found another ideal event for her and she is very well treated at the weights today. She should take a power of beating in this field and Kevin Shea has managed to retain this ride.

Race 9: ROSEY PEG(6)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Adam MARCUS

There are a few runners with decent form in this maiden contest but ROSEY PEG and ENDEARMENT are selected to fight things out, with slight preference for the former. The daughter of Jay Peg was soundly beaten by the latter over this c & d on the run to Study The Stars in her penultimate outing but she clearly didn't enjoy being equipped with blinkers that day and that run is best ignored. She showed what she is capable of when she stayed on well for a decent 3rd over a mile last time but there isn't much doubt that seven furlongs is her game. Her conditioner's horses have continued to do well during the summer and she is a major contender from a handy draw today.

Race 7: SHOWDOWN(9) (Each Way)
Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

This is an intriguing contest over a mile and a half and there is every chance of a false run race, which could put paid to the chances of many. The final verdict goes to the Justin Snaith trained four- year old daughter of Dynasty, SHOWDOWN. She has always shown above-average staying ability and she was beaten only a head into second in last season's Winter Oaks over 2200m. She has had some fair comeback runs and she was running on late when beaten 2.65 lengths by the high class three-year old, MOHAVE PRINCESS over ten furlongs, four weeks ago. She meets the latter on 2kgs better terms and the extra 400m should suit her perfectly. She isn't the stable elect but Muzi Yeni climbs aboard and she can upset with just 52kgs on her back. She is equally effective when racing handy so a likely sedate gallop won't harm her chances.
