Jockey: Sean VEALE - Trainer: Gavin SMITH

Only a field of 7 runners kick off today's proceedings but an exciting contest awaits as FREDERICK FOX and PACYANO ignite their rivalry. The former was desperately unlucky on two counts in that last effort as his gate opened slowly, but owing to the fact that he finished in the first 4, he was declared a runner. Then, after he made up considerable ground and actually headed the latter by three parts of a length, he may have just run out of energy as he allowed that rival to come back at him in the finish.

Race 2: PIPETTE(2) - TOP BET
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

PIPETTE did have some issues but there is no doubting her ability and her comeback form has been solid. She has produced all of her top performances on this track and only tired late into 5th behind male rivals over a mile, two weeks ago. She was her own worst enemy that day as she pulled hard but the pace should be stronger over today's slightly shorter trip. The daughter of Judpot now faces her own sex and she has strong claims of notching up that deserved maiden victory. The Bremner inmate jumps from barrier 3 and Khumalo takes the ride.

Jockey: Gift FUNEKA - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

CHOSEN GODDESS had always shown useful potential during her days in KZN and she transferred that form to PE when making a smart local debut, recently. The daughter of Goldkeeper stayed on nicely for a close 3rd over six furlongs and this extra furlong is more her game. She isn't too badly out at the weights in this conditions plate and she could have a bright future in this province. The four-year old filly is handily drawn at barrier 2 and she should go very close with just 52kgs on her back.

Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

PRICELESS SAIL has won both of her turf starts and she looks a promising type in the making. She set her own pace and fought back gallantly to beat HOLLYWOOD SUNSET by a neck over this c & d, three weeks ago. The daughter of Sail From Seattle has plenty of scope for further improvement and she has definite claims of following up.

Race 5: MAXIMO(4) (Each Way)
Jockey: Dylan MO - Trainer: Hekkie STRYDOM

These stayer's handicaps are often very competitive in PE and this event should be no different. The formline to follow could be the c & d Speck Of Light run on 09/05 and the 4th placed runner of that event, MAXIMO could be the right one. The four-year old gelding is in good form and he was well handl- ed by today's 4kgs claiming apprentice in his solid last performance on the polytrack. He was well beaten in that penultimate run but is now 4kgs better off with the runner-up VERTICAL DRIFT for that three length beating. He certainly won't be that far back this time around and should be competitive.
