Race 2: SALANDER(5)
Jockey: Luyolo MXOTHWA - Trainer: Robbie HILL

The long-time maiden SALANDER continues to hold her form and she is ideally c & d suited. She is drawn most favourable of the principle contenders and should stake a serious claim.

ROCKABERRY LANE is ultra-consistent and she showed her smart turn of foot when reverting to the grass, recently. The daughter of Western Winter easily beat a subsequent winner over the minimum trip on this track that day and may have escaped with just a three pound penalty. She takes on much stronger now but is still lightly raced and has lots of room for improvement. This extra furlong suits her well and she is a major contender.

Jockey: Sean CORMACK - Trainer: Charles LAIRD

VIVA LA VAR is a top class sprinter who seems to have overcome his issues. The speedy son of Var has won all four of his career outings over the minimum trip, the latest being an impressive 7.25 lengths victory on his polytrack debut. The Charles Laird inmate is naturally highly regarded and despite his recent six pound penalty, he still appears ahead of the handicapper. He has lots of scope for improve- ment and could have a bright future. The obvious concern is his soundness. The four-year old gelding is well handicapped in this minor feature event.

Jockey: Sean CORMACK - Trainer: Dennis DRIER

SABRE EDGE has twice found betting support in as many starts and he showed good improvement when he was caught late over six furlongs on this course, last time out. The son of Captain Al would have strengthened during his subsequent 17 week break and has lots of room for more improvement. The minim- um trip should be no issue for the Drier inmate and he will take a power of beating.

Jockey: Lerato MOHAPI - Trainer: Pat LUNN

DODGE CITY has been moderate on the polytrack for some time now and has come down nicely in the ratings. He faced stronger company last time but his slow starting theatrics often cost him on that surface. Nevertheless, he is a totally different proposition on the grass and this is his favourite track. The son of Way West usually produces a sustained late burst and his c & d record is a fair one. He will enjoy a 2.5kgs apprentice allowance and can cause a major upset.
