Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: KANARA(3) - TOP BET
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Alan GREEFF

KANARA was given a brilliant ride as she made the expected improvement when trying this c & d, second time out. She cruised past subsequent winner SHIRAZ CABERNET that day and has huge scope for further improvement. The daughter of Silvano meets the runner-up on identical weight terms and she should easily handle the rise in class. The stable jockey now climbs aboard and she looks very hard to beat in this juvenile contest.

Race 4: VALMODE(11)
Jockey: Gerrit SCHLECHTER - Trainer:  Renate DU PLESSIS

VALMODE needed both his comeback runs after a 17 week break and this should be his peak effort. He showed that he is above-average with a highly promising debut over seven furlongs on the grass and there is lots of room for improvement. His stable has come extremely well in recent weeks and the son of Modus Vivendi should relish the rise in distance. He is well drawn and should go very close in this field.

Jockey: Karl ZECHNER - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

The Red Barrel pinnacle stakes formline over a mile on 10/05 could dominate proceedings in this competitive handicap and STRAW MARKET could be finally rewarded for some consistent local form. The son of Windrush has only placed over this trip from a dozen tries but his last run at a high level clearly suggests that he is now searching for further. He ran on again for 3rd, beaten just under four lengths over the mile that day and now drops heavily in class. The Dorrie Sham inmate is once again well drawn and he should go very close.

Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Tara LAING

The Tara Laing stable holds a decent hand in this final event and the former Cape resident WESTERN FORCE is expected to go close on his local debut. The son of Western Winter brings some fair recent form against much stronger into this contest and he continues to drop in the ratings. Furthermore, the form of his last run was franked at Kenilworth recently and this bay gelding should take some beating, if he has acclimatized in PE. His best recent performance came over this trip and he appears well handicapped in this field.

Race 5: EMERALD ALBERT(13) (Each Way)
Jockey: Gerrit SCHLECHTER - Trainer: A McLachlan/D McKenzie

EMERALD ALBERT was always going to struggle at conditions level over 2700m last time but he is much better treated on these handicap terms. In fact, he beat a few of today's rivals when producing a strong late surge to win in yielding conditions over this c & d in his penultimate outing. He will again be competitive in this low-key handicap and his jockey's form has improved over the past few weeks.
