Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 4: EINA(13)
Jockey: Juan-Paul v.d.MERWE - Trainer: Alec LAIRD

EINA produced a fair debut and made the expected improvement when she stayed on for a good 3rd over seven furlongs at the Vaal, second time out. She will relish the extra furlong today and should continue to progress. The daughter of Ideal World has an awkward draw on her track debut but she could prove equal to the task. She will again be partnered by van der Merwe.

Race 6: FIRE WHEEL(1)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Sean TARRY

FIRE WHEEL seems to be handling the issues that kept her out of action for a lengthy absence. The daughter of Black Minnaloushe clearly isn't the force she once was, but she challenged strongly when going close over 1450m against stronger on this track, last Saturday. She deservedly shoulders a big mass of 62kgs but takes a big drop in class and can pull this off from a handy draw.

Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Brian WIID

The older fillies and mares in this contest are very limited and the three-year olds could dominate proceedings despite their big masses. ROCKIN THE DAISIES concedes weight all around but she is above average and brings solid recent form into this event. The daughter of Silvano stays well though and she is suited to this track. Furthermore, she stayed on under the same weight when only a neck adrift of the runner-up SHAWL over nine furlongs last time and is now 3kgs better off with that rival. The inmate from the Brian Wiid yard has more to offer and she should go close in this line-up.

Jockey: Johnny GEROUDIS - Trainer: Weiho MARWING

This is another moderate fillies and mares handicap but the value could lie with the now KZN resident, STIRLING LEAVES. This daughter of Silvano showed a real affection for this track whilst racing on the Highveld and she didn't fare too badly at the coast. She made her usual late progress on her return to this province recently and now gets equipped with alumites. Her wide draw isn't an issue as she possesses a strong finish and the fast pace of the minimum trip will suit her perfectly. The four-year old bay filly has been facing stronger for some time now and she is back against her own sex today.

Race 5: FLAMING ACE(9) (Each Way)
Jockey: Weichong MARWING - Trainer:  Ormond FERRARIS

FLAMING ACE fluffed his lines in his comeback run in a workrider's event last time but will be fitter now and top jockey Marwing climbs aboard the Announce gelding. The four-year old took a while to shed his maiden tag but he has been thereabouts since and has an affinity for this tight track. He is particularly effective over this c & d and is capable of upsetting his ordinary field.
