Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: BLUE DAWN(1) - TOP BET
Jockey: Bernard FAYD'HERBE - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

Trainer Justin Snaith took no chances when he withdrew BLUE DAWN after a late July meeting was moved to the polytrack. This well-bred daughter of Captain Al obviously loves racing on the grass and she recorded her career best effort over this c & d, five weeks ago. The lightly raced three-year old ran on strongly for 2nd and she should continue to progress. She is clearly the one to beat in this field.

Jockey: Teaque GOULD - Trainer: Tara LAING

The five-year old gelding, CAPTAINS SLIPPER is effective on both local surfaces and he is having just his fifth career outing. He obviously has his issues but has shown progress from day one and had two fair post maiden runs. The Captain Al gelding should plainly have finished much closer on the polytra- ck last time and could go close with a repeat of that performance. He should handle the extra furlong and could be ahead of the handicapper.

Race 4: LINE OF FIRE(1)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

LINE OF FIRE took a while to shed his maiden certificate but he has done really well in two subsequent efforts. He ran on smartly for a close 3rd behind a subsequent victor at novice level over seven furlongs last time and his conditioner has found the perfect race for him to notch up a deserved second career win. The Rebel King gelding is c & d suited and he meets a very weak field.

Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Tara LAING

HOUSE OF LORRAINE clearly relished being equipped with blinkers and returning to the grass when she thrashed her field in yielding conditions over this c & d, three weeks ago. She was handed the expect- ed maximum penalty for that defeat of THRILL FACTOR but the daughter of Dynasty will again wear the headgear and she still has plenty more to offer in this province. She is only 2kg worse off with the latter and has bright claims of following up.

Race 6: NIGHT FALL(10)
Jockey: Shadlee FORTUNE - Trainer: Gavin SMITH

This is a most intriguing graduation contest and it isn't as one-sided as the betting market suggests. The lack of a decent pace could prove to be a great leveller and the lightly weighted NIGHT FALL can cause the upset. The chestnut filly is ideally c & d suited and she has improved her formline in recent efforts. She was beaten just under three lengths by the fast improving AFRICAN HERITAGE over a mile last time but is now a whopping 10kgs better off with that rival. She represents an in-form yard and could make her 52.5kgs count. Her best local effort came with this 4kgs claiming apprentice up in her penultimate outing.
