Race 2: OLYMPIAN(1)
Jockey: Craig BANTAM – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

There are some very smart speedsters on display in this competitive handicap contest and the five furlong dash should yield an exciting finish. OLYMPIAN got back to his best form over this c & d last time and he will relish the likely suicidal pace. The five-year old gelding was cramped at the 400m mark that day but he ran on well to finish runner-up behind OVAR, beaten a length and a half at the wire. He now meets his conqueror on 6kgs better terms and could be an entirely different proposition.

Race 4: ELEADORA(7)
Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Willem A NEL

Just nine fillies and mares go to post for this ten furlong maiden plate but with two natural pacesetters presents, there could be a decent gallop which should yield a true result. The lightly raced chestnut mare ELEADORA was understandably green on her fair debut over a mile and she probably needed her comeback outing over nine furlongs, second time out. She has exactly three lengths to find with the 3rd placed finisher BRINKLEY but has much more room for progress and she will strip fitter.

Race 5: PRINCE OF EDEN(3)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Candice BASS-BASSON

PRINCE OF EDEN has had an injury plagued career and it came as little surprise when he relished the cut in the ground to land the betting coup over this c & d, seven weeks ago. The well-bred Silvano gelding was handed a five pound penalty but he clearly has more to offer at this level & with today’s track condition likely to be forgiving, the five-year old bay gelding has a strong chance of following up.

Race 7: NTOMBE(5)

Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

A decent field has assembled for the day’s topliner which is blessed with good speed and a true result is expected. NTOMBE has clearly appreciated the cut in the ground and she has bounced back to form in good fashion recently. She challenged strongly when going down three parts of a length into 2nd behind the smart Neala over this c & d in yielding conditions, five weeks ago. The imported mare escaped without a penalty for those exertions and she should be very competitive despite the slight rise in trip. She jumps from a good draw and faces the 3rd placed runner COLOUR MAGIC on similar weight terms.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 8: ELUSIVE STARS(2)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Ronnie SHEEHAN

The Waning Crescent formline over a mile on 30/07 could feature prominently in the outcome of this final event but a form reversal could see the distance specialist ELUSIVE STARS notch up her third career victory. The bay mare was below-par in that last start but she had never really convinced over a mile. She had good form prior to that and runs well for this jockey. The daughter of Elusive Fort will be an entirely different proposition over today’s trip.
