Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: ZEB(9)
Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

The speedy ZEB hasn’t raced for 14-weeks since his cracking debut over five furlongs on this course. The Vaughan Marshall inmate was understandably green but he challenged strongly and was beaten just a neck into 3rd in a tight affair. It could be worth following the progress of Risky Rambo who runs in race 1 as that rival finished narrowly ahead of the top selection on that occasion. This son of Pathfork would have strengthened during the break and he should have plenty more to offer.

Race 3: GOLD STANDARD(6)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

GOLD STANDARD has posted two smart efforts to date and he appears progressive. He showed a real liking for this distance as the Trippi colt finished well for 4th despite jumping from the worst draw on his first venture around the turn. That formline was boosted when the 3rd placed finisher Carbon Offset won a good contest next time out. This inmate from the Glen Kotzen yard should continue to improve and he rates an obvious contender on his track debut.

TOP BET

Race 4: CRAVEN(9)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

The extremely well-related CRAVEN was strongly fancied when he produced a top class debut over seven furlongs on this track, three weeks ago. The Dynasty colt finished strongly when beaten a neck into 2nd by his stablemate that day and he should make natural improvement. The mile should be right up his alley and the Brett Crawford inmate should take a power of beating from a good draw.

Race 7: MY EMBLEM(6)

Jockey: Grey CHEYNE – Trainer: Eric SANDS

There are some quality sorts on display in the day’s topliner and this formline could be worth following. The first selection is the bay filly MY EMBLEM who has bounced back to form since being equipped with blinkers in her last two starts. She finished strongly in each of those attempts, the penultimate occasion when beating NTOMBE (0.5kg worse off) by exactly one length. She followed up that effort with a good outing in an allowance plate over this c & d despite being badly out at the weights.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: MEGA SECRET(6)
Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Paddy KRUYER

This is a very competitive low-key handicap and a genuine case can be made for most of the eight entrants. The narrow first verdict goes to MEGA SECRET who gets equipped with blinkers for the first time in his career. The son of Jay Peg deserved his easy maiden victory in his penultimate outing but he disappointed when perhaps unsuited to the soft underfoot conditions on his handicap debut, next time out. He earned his 15-week break though and was rather interestingly docked four pounds after that last showing. It is worth noting that he finished 1.75 lengths adrift of over this distance on 19/12 but he now meets that rival on 3.5kgs better terms. The Paddy Kruyer inmate is well drawn on his course debut and he can cause the upset.
