JOCKEY Comments:
Jockey MJ Byleveld: "Master Sabina has a good draw and is a tough horse. This July could be rough so this will be in his favour. He is looking very well and will be suited to a rough race."

TRAINER Comments:
Trainer Justin Snaith: "Doing well. As a two-time Summer Cup winner I think he is well weighted on 57.5kg. He’ll run his race. Also he has run well in the July before, he gets every bit of the trip and he is doing very well at home.”

"Has a wide draw to contend with. A rough race would suit him and if the race is rough he can run a place."

"He is a definite runner in the race."

MAGIC TIPS (Winning Form) Comment:
This veteran gelding and dual Summer Cup winner has dominated that event on the Highveld but has changed stables (Ex Woodruff). He has a moderate first showing for his new conditioner but is better than what his track record indicates and could be particularly effective if adopting frontrunning tactics from his good draw. Of course his jockey lost this race in the boardroom in 2014 with the same strategy and will be looking to make amends. Dark horse at 40/1!

Verdict: Quality sort. Well drawn.

  • Jockey MJ Byleveld will be riding in his 11th Durban July. His best finish was on Wylie Hall in 2014 - where despite winning the race - he was relegated to 2nd position on objection from the eventual winner Legislate.
  • This will be Master Sabina's only second run under the training guidance of Justin Snaith. He was previously with Geoff Woodruff, where he won two Summer Cups.
  • Trainer Justin Snaith has trained two Vodacom Durban July winners - Dancer's Daughter (who dead heated with Pocket Power in 2008) and Legislate (2014 - who won on objection).
