Honours Even at Anfield

Week Eight Preview

Liverpool and Manchester United played out to a 0-0 draw at Anfield on Saturday 14 October 2017.

Jose Mourinho will be the happier of the two managers following his side's 0-0 draw Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

David de Gea produced a magnificent save in the first half to deny Joel Matip in what was the highlight of the match. In truth, United never looked like wanting to win the game, adopting the pragmatic approach that we've become accustomed to seeing from Mourinho's sides.

The visitors' best chance of the game arrived in the first half after Romelu Lukaku found space in the box, and with plenty of time, snatched at his shot allowing Simon Mignolet to make a pretty simple save.

That was about as good as it got for United who were lucky not to give away penalty int he second half. Coutinho danced past a few visiting defenders before Herrera took his feet out from under him just inside the area.

To be fair, the Liverpool players didn't protest all that much however, we've seen penalties given for  less in and around the league. The stats really do tell a story, with Liverpool dominating with 62% possession and 19 shots to United's six. The home side also managed to string together 578 passes while United could only manage 354.

Mourinho will be chuffed with his team's display as United go top of the league for now with Klopp no doubt feeling that it was a case of two points dropped as opposed to a point gained.
