Italian Serie A: Week Nine Preview

Week 9 Preview

Our soccer expert previews the Italian Serie A week nine action which kicks off on Saturday 20 October 2018.

The Italian Serie A continues on Saturday with Juventus leading the pack as usual. Napoli are behind them in second place but six points separate the two after just eight rounds of football. Further down the table, Frosinone and Chievo remain the only teams without a victory this season and will be desperate to find the winning formula. Let’s get to this weekend’s action.

Saturday 20 October

Roma 3/10
Draw 9/2
SPAL 15/2
Following a bit of a rough start to the season, Roma have found great form with three consecutive wins, scoring seven goals and conceding just once. SPAL  have been dismal with four losses on the spin and that doesn’t look likely to improve here.

The sides squared off last season for the first time in their history with Roma winning both meetings, thrashing SPAL 3-1 at home before annihilating them 3-0 in front of their own fans. Back the Giallorossi on the Half-time/Full-time win at 17/20.

Juventus 2/9
Draw 52/10
Genoa 12/1
Defending champions Juventus have been at the summit from the get-go. The Old Lady have won all eight matches, including a 2-0 victory at Udinese before the international break. Genoa were disappointing last time out, suffering a 3-1 defeat on home soil at the hands of newly-promoted Parma. Juve have won the last six meetings at home against Genoa, scoring 11 goals without conceding. With that being said, I’ll be climbing on the Home to Win to Nil – Yes – market at 8/10.

Udinese 47/10
Draw 29/10
Napoli 6/10
Udinese have been dismal in recent weeks with three straight defeats and the international break might have just been what the team needed. Napoli are six points behind Juventus and will be looking to keep chasing the champions down.

The Azzurri have won six of their eight matches but have struggled defensively. Home advantage gives Udinese a chance but they lack the quality to get the job done. Both Teams to Score – Yes – is the way to go here at 19/20.

Sunday 21 October

Frosinone 19/10
Draw 9/4
Empoli 29/20
Frosinone are second from bottom on the log with seven losses from eight matches, scoring just three goals and conceding 21 times. Empoli are 18th on the table and without a win in their last seven matches with five defeats. I don’t see this one ending with too many goals given the fact that these teams have scored just eight goals in 16 league games between them. The Over 2.5 Goals market looks ripe for the picking at 8/10.

Chievo 4/1
Draw 26/10
Atalanta 7/10
Chievo are rooted to the foot of the table with four defeats from their last six games. Atalanta have become UEFA Champions League hopefuls over the past two seasons but are struggling to find their feet at the moment. Both sides will be desperate to get the win on Sunday and you can expect them to come out firing from the first minute to the last. Take Both Teams to Score – Yes – at 11/10.

Parma 39/10
Draw 29/10
Lazio 13/20
By the looks of things Parma will be this season’s surprise package with the new boys on the blog packing four wins from their last five matches. Lazio have been impressive with five wins from their last six matches and will be hoping to build on that. The Biancocelesti struggle on the road and the hosts will be looking to exploit that. Get on the Parma Win/Draw Double Chance at 11/10.

Bologna 23/10
Draw 43/20
Torino 13/10
Bologna have lost four of their last six matches but have won two matches on the bounce on home soil. Torino have been excellent of late with back-to-back wins and are unbeaten on the road with three draws and one victory from four games. A tight contest is on the cards but Torino have dominated recent meetings between them with four wins from the last six encounters. Back the away side to edge the win.

Fiorentina 11/20
Draw 31/10
Cagliari 5/1
Fiorentina have won all four of their home games, scoring 12 goals and conceding just once. Cagliari, on the other hand, have lost three of their four matches on their travels, scoring only once and conceding six times. Those stats speak for themselves and I just don’t see Cagliari upsetting the applecart. The Viola are tipped to utilize home advantage.

Inter Milan 13/10
Draw 47/20
AC Milan 2/1
Sunday’s final fixture is undoubtedly the biggest Serie A match of the weekend with the Milan giants set to go toe-to-toe. Inter have been brilliant in recent weeks with four consecutive victories, while AC Milan are unbeaten in their last six matches with two wins on the bounce. Expect a hostile atmosphere and a cagey affair on Sunday evening. There is very little to choose from between these teams. The draw is on the cards.

Monday 22 October

Sampdoria 23/20
Draw 49/20
Sassuolo 23/10
Sampdoria have been impressive of late with back-to-back victories. Sassuolo have been in the opposite form, suffering consecutive losses before the international break. La Samp are strong at home and will be looking to make it count. The Neroverdi have managed just one win from four travels and should go down. The home team is tipped.

TREBLE @ 10/1
Roma HT-FT Win 7/4
Juventus Win to Nil 8/10
Sampdoria Win 23/20
