International Rugby: Georgia v Canada Preview

Tier Two nations, Georgia and Canada, will lock horns out in Tbilisi on Saturday the 11th of November

The ever-improving Georgians will host a Canadian side on Saturday afternoon. The hosts have enjoyed a very successful year beating both the United States and Canada during the June Internationals window. They also hosted a highly successful Under 20's World Championship where their young guns put in some great performances.

A few of those Under 20's representatives have been awarded senior call-ups and will be looking to stake a claim for a spot in the Georgian World Cup squad in the coming months, this fixture could offer them the ideal opportunity to do just that as Canada really are struggling for form.

Georgia (-15.5) 9/10 | Canada (+15.5) 9/10

They may have lost their Rugby Europe International Championships - or Six Nations B - trophy to Romania, but it has still been a year of progression for the Georgians. Their young guns enjoyed a magnificent Under 20 Championship campaign beating Argentina and giving South Africa and Ireland a run for their money.

Their senior squad have also impressed as they racked up wins over the United States (17-21) and Canada (0-13) during the June Test window. They also gave a solid account of themselves against the Argentines, going down 45-29 in Jujuy.

While it's been a great year for Georgian Rugby, the same cannot be said for Canadian Rugby as the Canucks lost their June Tests against both Georgia and Romania and then lost their two-legged Rugby World Cup Qualifier to the United States, drawing the first leg 28-28 and then losing the second by a mammoth 40 points. That result means that the Canadians will have to beat Uruguay in a World Cup Repachage fixture next January if they are to qualify for Japan 2019.

To make matters worse, the visitors make the trip to Tbilis off the back of a 51-9 drubbing at the hands of the Maori All Blacks. The defeat illustrated the lack of depth in Canadian rugby as they fell to pieces without 13 of their regular starting XV doing duty. Thankfully for the visitors, they will welcome back a few of their big guns for Saturday's Test.

Verdict: Georgia (-15.5) 9/10
The Georgians really have upped their game over the last few years and they have an extremely talented crop of youngsters coming through. I can see them enjoying a very successful November, starting with a 17 point or more win over the hapless Canadians.
