Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: LOBO'S LEGEND(11)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS  - Trainer: Joe SOMA

LOBO'S LEGEND was one of a few first timers that was strongly supported on debut in a highly competitive six furlong event at the Vaal in early winter. The Trippi colt stayed on eye-catchingly for 3rd after being slow into stride and it is well-documented what the runner-up Surcharge (completed hat-trick of wins subsequently and feature contender in race 5 on today's card) has achieved since. He would have strengthened during the extended break and should have much more to offer.

Race 2: ENSEMBLE(6)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA  - Trainer: Candice DAWSON

There are quite a few form entrants who should fight out a thrilling finish here and the narrow first verdict goes to ENSEMBLE who will be retained by top jockey Gavin Lerena. The pair fought hard before finishing a close 2nd behind the newcomer Promise (3rd in a strong handicap subsequently) over a similar trip at the Vaal second time out. Her time was superior to the other form entrant LILY STARLE- TTE who went close over the same track & trip a mere 35 minutes earlier.

Race 3: HAFLA(6)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Sean TARRY

It could pay to follow the progress of Ensemble in the previous event as the top selection here, HAFLA debuted in the same event behind the former in late September. This inmate from the Tarry yard was supported into favourite and she took off late for 4th after racing hopelessly green throughout. She would have come on appreciably from the experience and the well-related bay filly could be worth following.

Jockey:  Marco V/RENSBURG  - Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

The Woodruff yard holds a very strong hand in this Grade 3 contest which should be run at a lively tempo. GUNS AND ROSES has progressed brilliantly and she completed a five-timer with her seasonal debut victory in early September. Of course she steps into feature company for the first time in her career but the daughter of Trippi looks more than capable of proving equal to the task. She usually runs on strongly so her wide draw on this galloping circuit isn't an issue.

Race 8: ZEN ARCADE(5)
Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN - Trainer: Louis GOOSEN

ZEN ARCADE has his Highveld debut today but these surroundings won't be completely new to the bay gelding as he was a former Gauteng resident until a few months ago. He has blossomed in KZN this term and comes here seeking a hat-trick of victories after just four starts. However, his debut effort has arguably been the highlight of his short career. The son of Ideal World went off at long-odds in a feature over this trip at Scottsville that day and raced wide throughout but still ran on strongly for 2nd behind subsequent winner & unbeaten sort, Broadway Trip, whom he conceded 2kgs to. He has come on appreciably from that effort and has given every impression that he will love racing on this galloping circuit.
