ERCC: La Rochelle v Wasps Preview

The two most attacking sides in Europe are set to light up a dull Sunday afternoon with La Rochelle taking on Wasps at the Stade Marcel Delfrande on the 10th of December.

We are set to witness an absolute classic this Sunday with the Wellington Hurricanes of France, La Rochelle, taking on the equally expansive London Wasps out in France. The hosts currently sit five points above the visitors on the Pool 1 standings but a win for the Londoners could well turn the battle for Pool 1 top honours on its head.

La Rochelle v London Wasps | Sunday 10 November | Stade Marcel Delfrande | 16:00

To Win (80 Mins)
La Rochelle 2/7 | Draw 22/1 | Wasps 26/10

La Rochelle
The French outfit have their Champions Cup campaign off to the most perfect of starts,  Bonus-point wins over Harlequins (27-34) and Ulster (41-17) have seen them open up a five-point gap at the top of the Pool 1. Another bonus point victory this coming weekend would all but assure them a spot in the knockout phase of the competition, which would be some feat considering we've only just reached the middle-point of the pool phase.

La Rochelle also come into this one off the back of a solid run of results in the Top 14, with the French club winning five of their last six fixtures. This run is made all the more impressive when you look at the opposition they've taken on. They've beaten both Castres and Pau in the past three weeks and head into this one off the back of an impressive win over Montpellier, which saw them leapfrog their opponents into top spot on the French domestic standings. Not bad form to be taking into a game against a side that has blown hot and cold this term.

London Wasps
I really do feel for Wasps, injuries to key players as well as international call-ups have really hampered their start to the domestic season. The men from Coventry have bounced back in recent weeks, and now sit in fifth place on the Aviva Premiership standings thanks to four consecutive domestic wins.

Things get even rosier for Wasps fans when they turn their attention to Europe as their side are currently in with a good shout of advancing to the quarter-finals of the Champions, claiming five points from their opening two games. That five-point haul courtesy of their mammoth 41-10 Round 2 victory over domestic rivals, Harlequins. It must be noted that their only away fixture thus far saw them go down 19-9 to a far from vintage Ulster side.

Verdict: La Rochelle 2/7
Not only have La Rochelle been in sensational form in Europe but they also come into this one off the back of a marvellous run in the Top 14. They should have no problems seeing off a Wasps side that has flattered to deceive this term.
