ERCC: Racing Metro v Castres Preview

French heavy-hitters Racing Metro will be out for revenge when they host domestic rivals Castres on Saturday the 16th of December.

Racing Metro will be looking to close the gap on the top two in Pool 4 of the Champions Cup when they take on Castres for the second time in a space of a week. The French giants let a great opportunity slip last weekend as they went down by three points to Castres in their reverse tie. Racing's all-star cast will need to be a lot more clinical this time around if they are to keep their hopes of advancing to the next round of the Champions Cup alive.

Racing Metro
While most of Racing's main men disappointed last week, a special mention must go to French winger Teddy Thomas who spurned a massive chance to bag an early five-pointer for his side. The lightning-quick Thomas looked for all money as if he was going to bag the opening try, but a moment of madness from the Frenchmen saw the ball dislodged out of his hands five metres over the try line. Thomas' lackadaisical finish would come back to haunt him and his teammates as they went down by three points to Castres.

The aforementioned defeat put Racing in a rather difficult situation as we pass the midway point of this season's Champions Cup. The mega-rich club finds themselves five-points off log-leaders Munster and a point behind Pool 4's second-placed side, Castres. Had they managed to bag a win last week, which they should have, they would have come into this one only a solitary point off the pacesetters, Munster.

Castres really did tear up the form book last week as they snapped Racing Metro's brilliant run of form. This week's visitors gave a solid account of themselves at home but face an uphill battle trying to get anything out of this game, as Racing really is a class above. This is an all-French affair, so you simply cannot rule out a major upset occurring two weeks running.

If Castres are to upset the applecart, they are going to need their men up front to fire. The Racing half-backs were given a lot of time to make decisions last week and if they're afforded the same amount of space at the StadeYves-du-Manoir, then Castres will have no chance of winning this one regardless of how many times a Racing player coughs up possession with the try line at his beck and call.

Verdict: Racing 1/4
They will have absolutely no troubles getting the better of their local rivals this coming weekend. Make sure you cash in on what will be a massive Racing backlash.
