Rain spoils Dolphins & Cobras Durban clash

One innings was possible on Friday night at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead before the heavens opened and the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and WSB Cape Cobras had to settle for two points each in their RAM SLAM T20 Challenge clash.

Friday's wash-out meant that the Dolphins have only managed to play two of their six matches in the RAM SLAM this season and unfortunately for the men from Durban, they have had their last three matches all lost to the elements.

The Dolphins won the toss and elected to field first and they started brightly as Mthokozisi Shezi accounted for Temba Bavuma in the third over of the contest.

Cobras wicket-keeper Kyle Verrynne was next to go when he was neatly stumped by Dane Vilas off Imran Tahir's bowling for 14 and the Cobras were 40/2 as JP Duminy joined the in-form Hashim Amla at the wicket.

The pair added 33 for the third wicket before a quicker ball from Keshav Maharaj had Amla playing a false shot and caught in front, LBW for 40.

The Dolphins would have felt confident with the visitors 73/3 from 11 overs as Qaasim Adams came to the wicket to join his captain.

Adams battled throughout but provided the ideal foil for Duminy who struck the ball sweetly with his only blemish being a dropped catch on the deep midwicket fence by Sarel Erwee when he was on 56.

Tahir picked up Adams with the final ball of the 19th over for 23 as the Cobras went into the final six deliveries on 147/4.

Andile Phehlukwayo then found himself on the receiving end of a belligerent Duminy, who hit him for 24 in the final five balls which included three sixes and a four as he finished 85 not out off 44 balls.

This over took the Cobras to an imposing 172/4 from their 20 overs.

The Dolphins innings only lasted 13 deliveries with Sarel Erwee being the only casualty as he chopped on a Dane Paterson delivery for six and the Dolphins were 8/1 when the umpires called the players from the field with rain and lighting surrounding Kingsmead.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins travel to Port Elizabeth next to take on the Warriors at St George's Park in the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge on Sunday.
