Aviva Premiership: Sale Sharks v Saracens Preview

Aviva-Premiership-Sale-versus-Saracens-Preview

Saracens will be looking to edge closer to top spot of the Aviva Premiership standings when they take on the Sale Sharks on Friday the 16th of February.

Saracens will be licking their lips at the chance of finishing this weekend at the summit of the Aviva Premiership. The 2015/16 Premiership Champions currently trail the log-leading Exeter Chiefs by just two points. And with the Chiefs having to travel to the Wasps this weekend, 'Sarries could well have leapfrogged them by the time Sunday's proceedings comes to a close. The men from North London will have to be on their game however as they are facing a Sale outfit who are also looking to secure a semi-final berth.

Sale Sharks
The Sharks have been one of the most enjoyable teams to watch this year with the southern hemisphere influences of Faf de Klerk, James O'Connor, and Rohan Janse van Rensburg making this 2017/18 Sale incarnation one of the most potent attacking units the club has ever seen. Unfortunately, for Sharks fans, the powerhouse Van Rensburg has returned to the Golden Lions for Super Rugby duty.

The Sharks are enjoying a fantastic year and currently lie in sixth place on the Premiership standings, only five points off a semi-final berth. And a victory here would put them write in the running for a 'semi.

The above will be easier said than done, however, as this is a Saracens side in solid touch. This weekend's visitors have four on the trot in the Premiership and travel North off the back of a 25-3 victory over Newcastle. Sale also managed to bag a win last weekend, although it was a lot shakier than 'Sarries display with the Sharks edging London Irish 9-13.

Saracens Rugby
The European heavyweights seemed to be hitting their stride at just the right time, which is rather unusual as this is a time of the year Saracens have traditionally struggled at due to Six Nations call-ups.

As noted in the Sale segment, Saracens are on a four-game Aviva Premiership winning streak. They have also been in solid form in Europe securing passage to the next round of the European Rugby Champions Cup by winning their last two Pool phase fixtures.

Verdict: Saracens 5/10
They may still be missing a handful of Internationals but 'Sarries should have the quality to see off a Sale side who they beat 41-13 back in September.
