Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: BELFRY(5)
Jockey: L Hewitson  - Trainer: S Tarry

BELFRY has shown fair improvement in both his comeback runs albeit he had a moderate recent effort. That said, he was making steady headway on this course that day and the equipping of blinkers could make the difference on the Tarry inmate who has his peak showing from a decent draw.

Race 3: SAILOR GIRL(1)
Jockey: M V.Rensburg- Trainer: S Ferreira

SAILOR GIRL had an eye-catching recent c & d display when she ran on well for 3rd in a strong line-up and the runner-up Tigerlace has won subsequently. This daughter of Sail From Seattle finished just over half a length ahead of REGAL GIRL that day but is drawn best of all here and she can confirm the formline. The latter certainly prefers racing around the turn and though she is progressive, she may require a pair of blinkers.

Race 4: ANTONELLO(11)
Jockey: D David    - Trainer: P Peter

The three-year old colt ANTONELLO showed huge improvement when he clearly relished trying ten furlongs and blinkers in just his second start. Admittedly, that was in a weak workrider's event but the son of Curved Ball came from far back to be 2nd best that day and he finished 7.50 lengths clear of the next placed runner, TONGUE TWISTER. His pedigree indicates that he will enjoy this steeper rise in trip and he should continue to progress.

Race 8: JET START(11)
Jockey: S Brown   - Trainer: O Ferraris

JET START is an improving daughter of Pathfork who has caught the eye with some pleasing recent efforts, most notably in a strong field over a mile on this course last time out. The runner-up Costa Da Sol unfortunately fluffed her lines in a strong field when perhaps unsuited to a sedate gallop subsequently but this bay filly drops in class & she holds strong claims.

Jockey: G Lerena     - Trainer:  G Woodruff

Just seven decent campaigners head to post for this exciting ten furlong handicap contest which should result in a thrilling finish. The AMSTERDAM formline is prominent among more than half the field and the six-year old MASTER SWITCH is fast reaching a highly competitive merit rating. He was making steady progress when beaten just under three lengths by the former recently but is now 3kgs to the good and top rider Gavin Lerena climbs aboard the Woodruff inmate. Of course the extra furlong will play right into his hands. The former had that gutsy recent victory which came at a cost of a three pound penalty but he is unbeaten from three c & d efforts so should again be taken seriously.
