French Top 14: La Rochelle v Lyon Preview

La Rochelle will be looking to arrest their horrendous run of form when they play host to Lyon on Saturday the 17th of March.

La Rochelle managed to lose yet another 2018 Top 14 fixture as they went down 18-15 to Pau. The result has left the Les Corsaires ("The Privateers") languishing in the eighth position of the Top 14 standings, three points off sixth-placed Lyon.

To stay that La Rochelle need to win Saturday's fixture against Lyon would be something of an understatement. Europe's great entertainers have only managed to win one of the six fixtures they have played this year. That victory came way back at the end of January when they beat Brive 33-24.

This weekend's hosts almost managed to arrest their losing streak last week as they narrowly went down to Pau in a game that could have gone either way with the sides locked at 15-15 with 10-minutes left on the clock. A last minute penalty from Pau would heap the misery on beleaguered La Rochelle, however.

Unlike La Rochelle, Lyon managed to bag a win last weekend as they saw off Toulouse 20-27. The victory was fourth of the year and their second on the trot. It was also their first away win of 2018.

The Wolves will feel quietly confident headed into this one despite going despite going down 15-19 to La Rochelle earlier in the season. They know their opponents are struggling at the moments, and if they can keep it tight headed into the final twenty minutes of the game, then the nerves will surely kick in for La Rochelle.

Verdict: Lyon 17/4
This is a massive speculator, so don't throw the house on it, but Lyon on the straight offers a great return for a minuscule outlay.
