Italian Serie A: Week 28 Preview

Week 28 Preview

Lazio lost ground on top-placed Juventus after dropping points against Atalanta. Gameweek 28 takes centre stage this weekend with plenty of value at stake in some matches that I think are easy to call.

Friday 26 June

Juventus 2/13
Draw 13/2
Lecce 15/1
High-flying Juventus are on a four-match winning streak and have opened up a four-point lead at the summit of the standings after their nearest pursuers Lazio slipped up. By a way of contrast, Lecce who have lost four of their last five games are in the relegation zone. I can’t see past a Juventus win here.

Saturday 27 June

Brescia 39/20
Draw 24/10
Genoa 27/20
This is a battle between bottom-place Brescia and Genoa who are just one spot above the relegation zone. A win for Brescia would mean they cut the gap between them and their opponents to four points which would mean a realistic chance to survive relegation. On the other hand, Genoa want to steer clear of relegation trouble. I foresee a stalemate.

Cagliari 14/10
Draw 9/4
Torino 2/1
Cagliari snapped a nine-match winless streak when they defeated relegation-threatened SPAL 1-0 the last time out and they come up against a Torino side who have just ended an eight-game winless run. This will be a tricky encounter and I think the side will cancel each other out.

Lazio 6/10
Draw 3/1
Fiorentina 17/4
Lazio are looking to return to winning ways after losing 3-2 to Atalanta. That defeat saw top-placed Juventus extend their lead by four points. Fiorentina drew 1-1 with bottom-placed Brescia in their first match after lockdown. Lazio should win this one.

Sunday 28 June

AC Milan 33/20
Draw 24/10
AS Roma 31/20
AC Milan’s pursuit of European football got a huge boost when they beat Lecce 4-1 earlier this week. They come up against AS Roma who are looking to hold onto their place in the top four.   I Giallorossi com into this one off the back of a three-match winning streak. Milan are playing at home but they’re up against a strong opponent and I think the away side will collect maximum points.

Sassuolo 15/10
Draw 47/20
Hellas Verona 18/10
The two sides have identical records in the last five games, both having lost twice, won once and drawn twice. Verona have already played two games since the return from lockdown, winning one and losing the other one. Sassuolo have lost one and drawn one of their two games after lockdown. I’ll back the away side due to momentum.

Udinese 11/2
Draw 7/2
Atalanta 9/20
This is a game between teams with contrasting fortunes. Udinese are winless in their last five games while Atalanta have won all their last five league games which includes a sensational victory over title-chasing Lazio. Let’s back Atalanta here.

Sampdoria 27/20
Draw 23/10
Bologna 2/1
Sampdoria are just one point above the relegation zone while their opponents have plummeted to 11th on the table after a four-match winless run. This is a game between two sides who’ve been poor in recent weeks and I foresee them cancelling each other out. Put your money on a draw.

Napoli 3/10
Draw 9/2
Spal 9/1
This is another one that should be easy to call with Napoli being in the top six while Spal are in the relegation zone. The hosts have won four league games in a row and have recently lifted the Copa Italia while the visitors have lost four of their last five games. Napoli should have no trouble winning this one.

Parma 47/10
Draw 29/10
Inter Milan 6/10
Parma have been inconsistent this season with 11 wins and 10 defeats! They come up against Inter who still have a sim chance of chasing the league title. Antonio Conte’s men are eight points off the pace and a win here could help them close them get closer to Juventus. I think the visitors should be able to collect maximum points.

Treble @ 3/1
Lazio 6/10
Atalanta 9/20
Inter Milan 6/10
