Super Rugby 2018: Brumbies v Waratahs Preview

Super Rugby 2018: Crusaders v Bulls Preview

The Brumbies and Waratahs will go head-to-head in what should be an intriguing Australian Derby on Saturday the 31st of March.

While clashes between the Brumbies and Waratahs have always been heated affairs, this one could well boil over with the Brumbies desperate to move up the Australian Conference and the Waratahs hoping to make up ground on the conference-leading Rebels.

Brumbies v Waratahs
Saturday 31 March
GIO Stadium

To Win (80 Mins)
Brumbies 21/20
Draw 22/1
Waratahs 8/10

It has been a tough old start to the 2018 Super Rugby season for the Brumbies, who have only managed to win two of their opening four fixtures. They have struggled against their local rivals with their two defeats coming at the hands of the Reds 18-10 and the Rebels 33-10. They have given a decent account of themselves against overseas opposition, however, beating the Sunwolves 25-32 in Round 2 and the Sharks 24-17, last weekend.

The Brumbies have fared well against the Waratahs in recent years and have won the last three games between the two sides. Their biggest winning margin during this three-game winning run came in 2016 out in Canberra where they won by 17 points. They also managed to win last year's game by 16 points.

The Waratahs have been slightly more impressive than the Brumbies this season but still find themselves well off of the pace on the Australian Conference. The men from New South Wales have also only managed to register two wins but their draw against the Sharks in Durban means they sit two points clear of the Brumbies in third spot on the Australian Conference.

Daryl Gibson's men head to Canberra off the back of a morale-boosting result as they managed to beat the Rebels 51-27 last Sunday. The win looked extremely unlikely at half-time in the game as the Rebels held a commanding 17 point lead. A spirited second-half display from the 'Tahs saw them complete an astonishing comeback,

Verdict: Waratahs 8/10
If the visitors can match the intensity they produced in the second-half of last week's victory over the Rebels then they will have no problems dispatching of a struggling Brumbies outfit.
