Super Rugby 2018: Waratahs v Rebels Preview

Australian rivals, the Waratahs and Rebels, will close out Round 5 of the 2018 Super Rugby season when they clash on Sunday the 18th of March.

The Waratahs will be looking to put an end to the Rebels winning streak when they play host to their country rivals this weekend. The hosts head into this one with a flawless record having won all three of their opening games. The Waratahs, on the other hand, have produced the ultimate mixed bag winning one, drawing one and losing one of their first three fixtures.

To Win (80 Mins)
Waratahs 19/20
Draw 22/1
Rebels 9/10

Waratahs
The Waratahs head home off the back of a tour that has left more questions than answers for coach Daryl Gibson. His side produced some solid rugby whilst on tour but failed to produce a full 80-minute performance. This was evident during their draw with the Sharks a fortnight ago where they produced a solid opening 10-minutes and then let the hosts back into the game.

While the Waratahs managed to claim two points from their draw with the Sharks, their trip to Argentina last week proved far less fruitful with the men from New South Wales coming away from Buenos Aires with nothing to show for their endeavours.

Rebels
The Australian Conference's form side bagged their third win of the season last weekend as they hammered the Brumbies 33-10. It was a rather strange game with the Brumbies dominating possession stats and the Rebels thriving off scraps.

Key to the Rebels fast start to the season has been the form of off-season Will Genia. The Wallaby nine has really given the Rebels an extra edge with his slick delivery from the base and his eye for a gap. He could well expose a Waratahs fringe defence that has been found wanting in the recent past.

Verdict: Rebels 9/10
I just feel the 'Tahs will be undercooked after their daunting tour of South Africa and Argentina. My money is on the Rebels capitalizing on their opponents fatigued to bag their fourth successive win of the campaign.
