Jonhenry previews Wednesday's IPL clash between the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Daredevils set to take place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

This year's Indian Premier League is already into its sixth fixture, as 2008's inaugural champions - and 2019 tournament returnees - host a Delhi outfit in early pursuit of a maiden title.

Both teams are eager to recover from recent defeat, after the Royals went down to the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Daredevils lost to the Kings XI Punjab.

Rajasthan Royals
The Royals were entirely out of sorts earlier this week, crashing to a heavy defeat in Hyderabad, where none of their overseas stars - nor top-dollar Indians - managed to perform well. Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and company, indeed, need to insist on swift correction from themselves and others 48 hours later.

Sidelined from 2016 and 2017's editions of the IPL due to an illegal betting scandal, the Royals splashed some fat cash on their return - and have to demand much more from two players in particular: Ben Stokes and Jaydev Unadkat. The all-rounder and seamer were the most expensive at the player auction - and with Samson also in the top 10 of the most pricey - the pressure to deliver for dollars is certainly on.

The teams last met in 2015, when Rajasthan won the home and away fixtures. Ajinkya Rahane starred on both occasions and, this time around, captaining the side, will be a key figure. If D'Arcy Short, Stokes and Buttler fail again, nothing short of 80-plus will suffice for the cool, calm and collected opening batsman.

At the top of the knock, Gautam Gambhir and Colin Munro will have to be in Rajasthan's sites, after which the lower-order hitting of Chris Morris and Dan Christian will have to be combated. On both fronts, the opening and death bowling of Dhawal Kulkarni - with his cleverly disguised slower balls - will be important.

Delhi Daredevils
Delhi will be eager to capitalise against a Royals outfit that suffered a substantially more one-sided loss than they did during the opening throes of the tournament. While the conditions won't exactly play into their hands, it hardly qualifies as home ground advantage for Rajasthan either.

They've drafted in Liam Plunkett as a replacement for the injured Kagiso Rabada - and the England seamer might get a game ahead of New Zealand pace ace Trent Boult. The Kiwi was solid enough in defeat to the Kings XI Punjab, but was arguably too quick - and lacked enough variations - with the new ball. Plunkett would offer different.

The Daredevils will have to find somebody to bat around Gambhir. If not Munro, then any one of a host of Indian middle-order talent. Rishabh Pant promised so much in last year's IPL and has since gone onto T20I cricket. Here's a big opportunity to show that he is well worth investing in at franchise and international level.

While Buttler, Short, Stokes and others failed against the Sunrisers, at least one of them is likely to come off against Delhi. The key for the Daredevils, will be to ride this and not lose patience, striking when the time is right. It's okay if one of them gets away to a quick 30 or 40, but that can't be allowed to continue much further.

Verdict: Delhi Daredevils 92/100
The Rajasthan Royals just seemed to ring rusty to suggest they will turn things around two days later, leaving the Daredevils firm favourites to take this one.
