Super Rugby 2018: Brumbies v Jaguares Preview

Super Rugby 2018: Brumbies v Jaguares Preview

The Jaguares will be looking for a second win over Australian opposition in the space of eight days when they take on the Brumbies on Sunday the 22nd of April.

The Brumbies and the Jaguares will bring the curtain down on Round 10 of the 2018 Super Rugby season when they lock horns at the GIO Stadium this coming Sunday. The two sides head into this encounter off the back of contrasting results with the hosts going down heavily to the Highlanders last week and the Jaguares edging the Rebels.

Brumbies 5/10

Jaguares 16/10

Handicap * Forecast handicap
Brumbies -5 (9/10)
Jaguares + 5 (9/10)

The Brumbies will be desperate to bounce back against the Jaguares this weekend after putting in a rather unconvincing Round 10 performance against the Chiefs in Waikato. The men from Canberra went down 43-17 to their Kiwi opponents last week. This was their fourth defeat of the season and leaves them in third position on the Australian Conference, some 10 points off the conference-leading Waratahs.

The Brumbies have been a lot better at home than the road this season with two of their three victories coming at the GIO Stadium. The aforementioned wins saw them beat the Reds 45-21 and the Sharks 24-17. Their only defeat on home soil came against the Waratahs, whom they went down to by seven points.

Well, that was as unexpected a result as any! I mean, this is a Jaguares side that had only registered one win until their shock two-point victory over the Rebels last Saturday. The 'Jags had only won two of their eight fixtures prior to that with both victories coming in Argentina where they beat the Lions by 14 points and the Waratahs by ten points.

The 'Jags have struggled on the road this term losing their two other away fixtures by eight points or more.

Verdict: Brumbies (-5) 9/10
I just cannot see the Jaguares putting in two solid performances on the road. They tend to blow hot one week and cold the next. With that in mind, I'll be having a moderate strike on the Brumbies to clear a modest handicap at home.
