Super Rugby 2018: Sunwolves v Waratahs Preview

Super Rugby 2018: Sunwolves v Waratahs Preview

The Sunwolves and Waratahs will lock horns out in Tokyo on Saturday the 7th of  April.

The Waratahs will be looking to build on their derby victory over the Brumbies when they make the shortish trip to Japan this coming Saturday. The hosts have provided stiff opposition for all those who they have faced this season, so this is by no means a cut and dry fixture.

Sunwolves v Waratahs
Saturday 7th April

Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium

To Win (80 Mins)
Sunwolves 5/1

Draw 30/1
Waratahs 1/8

Sunwolves (+14.5) 9/10
Waratahs (-14.5) 9/10

They may still be winless in this year's tournament but the Sunwolves have given a handful of teams a real run already, with their best result being a two-point loss to the Lions at Emirates Airline Park. They also managed to claim a losing bonus point against the Brumbies in Round 1 where they went down by just seven points out in Japan.

The Sunwolves have been spirited this season but they come into this one off the back of a heavy 61-10 defeat to the Chiefs. They did enjoy their bye week during Round 7 so they should come into this one slightly rejuvenated while their visitors have endured a tough travelling schedule which featured stops in South Africa and Argentina.

Considering how tough their opening fixtures were, the Waratahs may well be pleased to be sitting in the fifth spot on the Overall Conference standings and second in the Australian Conference. The men from New South Wales have produced some decent rugby this term with last week's 17-24 away victory over the Brumbies last weekend being the highlight thus far.

The 'Tahs head into this one off a solid string of results. which have seen them win two, draw one of their last four with their only defeat coming at the hands of the Jaguares back in Round 4. They head into this one off the back of two consecutive victories with a 51-27 victory over the Rebels proceeding last week's seven-point away win over the Brumbies.

Verdict: Waratahs (-14.5) 9/10
They may be without star man Israel Folau but the 'Tahs are still producing some quality rugby. I can see them clearing the 'cap against the Sunwolves this Saturday.
