5 Talking Points from the Sporting Weekend

Five talking points from some of the weekend's sporting highlights.  

Chennai Super Kings win IPL 2018

The Chennai Super Kings produced a match-winning performance as they won by 8 wickets to beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the Indian Premier League 2018 title. The Sunrisers, led by Kane Williamson (47) and  Yusuf Pathan (45*) managed 178/6 in their allotted overs.

Suresh Raina and Shane Watson's second wicket partnership of over 100 runs lay the foundation for CSK. Watson led the attack and finished at the crease as he scored a quick-fire 117 from 57 balls. The win sees CSK pick up their third trophy since the IPL's inception.

Kolisi to lead Boks

Rassie Erasmus announced his Springbok squad for the June International Test's on Saturday the 26th of May. The squad includes 17 uncapped players with Erasmus opting for a string of young players in preparation for the bigger picture - The 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Siya Kolisi will Captain the squad with Peter Steph du Toit elected as vice-captain. Frans Steyn and Bismarck du Plessis will join the squad on Monday after their commitments to their European clubs. The Boks will take on Wales on Saturday, 2 June - 23:00, with the starting line up scheduled to be named on Wednesday, 30 May.

Pakistan outclass Root and Co.

Pakistan cruised to a 9 wicket victory to take a 1 - 0 lead in their two-match Test series against England. England were bowled out for 184 in their first innings from just 58 overs, Mohammed Abbas and Hassan Ali taking four wickets apiece.  Pakistan's response at the crease was a 114 over spell that saw them score 363 all out.

The pressure tolled on the Englishmen and they only mustered up 242 all out - handing Pakistan a minute target of 64 runs. Imam-ul-Haq and Haris Sohail's second wicket partnership sailed the away team home for an emphatic 9 wicket victory.

Real Madrid UCL three-peat 

Zinedine Zidane completed a hat-trick of UEFA Champions League trophies after Real Madrid won the tie 3 - 1. The match was surrounded by controversy when Mo Salah walked off with a dislocated shoulder after a challenge from Sergio Ramos.

Loris Karius made two errors that would prove costly for the side from England. Gareth Bale came on to score a sensational overhead kick and a third goal that was spilt by Loris Karius into the net. It was all she wrote as Real Madrid completed the first three-peat in the UEFA Champions league modern era.
Neymar not Leaving PSG for Madrid  

The current world's most expensive player is rumoured to be interested in a transfer to Real Madrid.  Neymar is looking at winning prestigious championships and awards such as the UEFA Champions League and the coveted Ballon d'Or award. PSG president - Nasser Al-Khelaifi was quoted saying that ''no player is bigger than the club and if a player wants to leave they can do so.''

 But Neymar has rubbished the rumours stating that "The focus is now on the Brazilian team," he told the press, according to FourFourTwo.

"They are saying nonsense. It's not worth answering."
