Super Rugby 2018: Rebels v Crusaders Preview

Super Rugby 2018: Crusaders v Bulls Preview

The Crusaders will be looking to rack up yet another win when they take on the Rebels on Friday the 4th of May, out in Australia.

A wounded Rebels side return from South Africa with the unenviable task of having to take on the Crusaders in Melbourne. The hosts head into this one having lost four on the trot while the Crusaders have won seven of the nine fixtures they've played this year.

Rebels v Crusaders
Friday 4 May

To Win (80 Mins)
Rebels 47/10
Draw 28/1
Crusaders 1/7

Rebels (+16.5) 9/10
Crusaders (-16.5) 9/10

As mentioned in the introduction, the Rebels have been on a horrendous run of form of late, losing 34-18 to the Stormers last week and 28-10 to the Bulls before that. The Rebels lost both of their games prior to departing on their tour as well, going down 22-25 to the Jaguares and 19-50 to the Hurricanes.

Things may be even gloomier for the Rebels after this Saturday if history repeats itself, as they have been comfortably beaten by the Crusaders in the last two seasons. With the Rebels going down by 22 points in Melbourne last year and by 49 points in Christchurch back in 2016.

The Crusaders have enjoyed a brilliant sequence of results and could extend their winning streak to six on the trot should they win this one. The men from Christchurch head into this one off the back of a 21-8 victory over the Brumbies in a game which they hardly got out of second gear in.

Crusaders coach, Scott Robertson, has made a series of changes for this one, with Richie Mou'unga and George Bridge returning to the backline, and Wyatt Crockett coming into the front row.

Verdict: Crusaders (-16.5) 9/10
Will Genia may be back but I still cannot see the Rebels keeping it within the cap against a Crusaders outfit who knows how to put teams to bed.
