#ThrowBackThursday - Vodacom Durban July

Vodacom Durban July News - Horse Racing - Hollywoodbets

On today's #ThrowbackThursday we relive the controversy of the 2014 Durban July that surrounded Legislate and Wylie Hall.

Into the final stretch of Race 7 at the Greyville Racecourse. Wylie Hall was leading the pack but was ahead by a gallop in front of the challenger and favourite Legislate.

Drama ensued as the horses were approaching the 250m mark, Legislate who was behind Wylie Hall brushed the hindquarters of Wylie Hall and was straightened. When the horses left the 200m mark, Wylie Hall shifted outwards and brushed Legislate once, between the 100m and 50m mark, Wylie Hall shifted outwards further brushing Legislate on two more occasions.

Wyle Hall crossed the finish line first ahead of Legislate but only by a hair.

Legislate suffered a cut on the leg from the incident - which was deemed ''not too serious'' by trainer Justin Snaith amid speculation that Legislate would have to be put down.

Wylie Hall, ridden by Weiho Marwing and trained by MJ Byleveld at first inspection had won the 2014 Vodacom Durban July. But an objection was lodged by jockey Richard Fourie on the grounds of interference over the final 300 metres.

The Objection Board viewed the evidence and deemed that Legislate would have finished in front of Wylie Hall if it wasn't for the interference. The board upheld the objection and named Legislate the winner.
