Federer Ditches Nike for R5 Billion Deal

Federer Ditches Nike for R 5 Billion Deal

Roger Federer, the eight-time Wimbledon Grand Slam winner, on Monday 2 July 2018, walked out onto the All England Lawn Tennis Club, wearing Japanese apparel brand, Uniqlo.

Federer, 36, was announced as the Global Ambassador for the Japanese Apparel retailer, Uniqlo. In a deal for over 10-years estimated at  $410 million – which is more substantial to the $13 million per annum, he was receiving from Nike.

Federer is currently ranked 7th in the 2018 Forbes World’s Highest Paid Athletes List. But this deal will see him grossing a higher income and climb up that chart.

The Swiss ended a 21 year deal with Nike, who also own the logo RF. Federer is adamant that Nike will release his logo and hand it back to him, but surely at a ‘small fee’. The Swiss currently wears Nike shoes on the court, as he hasn’t completely cut all ties with Nike.

Roger doesn’t have a shoe deal and is interested to see what shoes he’ll be sporting in the near future.
