Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: DIECI (3)
Jockey: S VEALE - Trainer: D DRIER

DIECI made steady late headway on her fair debut in a competitive field over five furlongs on the turf last month and the daughter of Judpot would have come on appreciably from the experience. She should enjoy this extra furlong and must be respected on her polytrack debut.

Jockey: L PAGEL - Trainer: L GOOSEN

The striking grey gelding THE GREY CRUSADER has issues but he has all the right credentials and his smart barrier trial eleven days ago showed his fitness. Of course the son of Crusade has his stable debut for this quality outfit and he is the yard's only entrant on the card.

Race 5: LOVE TO BOOGIE (3)
Jockey:  A DOMEYER - Trainer: W NEL

The day's topliner is a most intriguing listed contest as a few of the principle contenders try this surface for the first time. The top selection LOVE TO BOOGIE is one of them and this useful daughter of Trippi also has her maiden attempt over the mile. She has the pedigree to easily handle the trip though and she progressed smartly in both her local showings at feature level.

Race 6: ILLUMINATE (6)
Jockey:  W KENNEDY - Trainer: D DRIER

The pace may be sedate in this low-key handicap over 1900m which should result in an intense finish though the Drier inmate ILLUMINATE is strongly fancied. Of course the daughter of Brave Tin Soldier profited from racing without blinkers as she ran on smartly for a close 3rd in male company in unfavourable conditions over this c & d three weeks ago. She quite surprisingly escaped without a penalty for her exertions and has proven to be effective with handy or frontrunning tactics in the past.

Race 7: VELVET GLOVE (10)
Jockey: B LERENA - Trainer: C BESTEL

This is a really moderate maiden contest over nine furlongs where a major upset could be on the cards. The well-related lightly raced four-year-old VELVET GLOVE has struggled with blinkers in her last two starts but the headgear is rightly removed today. She had a much improved second outing in a far stronger line-up over this c & d and rather interestingly one of today's principle contenders SUNNY GIRL finished exactly 2.50 lengths adrift of her.
