Currie Cup 2018: Griquas v Blue Bulls Preview

Currie Cup 2018: Griquas v Blue Bulls Preview

The Bulls will be looking to bounce back from successive defeats when they travel to Kimberley to take on the Griquas on Saturday the 8th of September.

The Blue Bulls head to Kimberly this Saturday looking to bounce back from back-to-back defeats. The men from Pretoria will be kicking themselves of letting a late lead slip against the Lions last Saturday evening. The Griquas, on the other hand, enjoyed the week off and will be well-rested heading into this one.

Griquas
The Griquas will run out in front of their home fans for the first time this season when the Bulls come knocking. This weekend’s hosts have played two games thus far, losing both fixtures by rather heavy margins. Their opening match saw them go down 42-19 to the Pumas in Nelspruit, while their second loss was a 62-41 defeat to the Lions in Johannesburg.

This weekend’s hosts have struggled defensively this term shipping a mammoth 104 points in their opening two fixtures. They have been decent enough with ball-in-hand, however, and are currently averaging 30 points per game.

Blue Bulls
After a promising start to the season, the Bulls have lost their way going down 26-10 to the Sharks in Durban and then 35-38 to the Lions in Pretoria. The latter result will have been a hard one for all Bulls supporters to swallow as their side were 35-24 up with the game into its final quarter. Two late tries from Lions flanker Hacjivah Dayimani would curtail the Bulls hopes of registering their second win of the season, however.

If the Bulls are to bounce back from their 35-38 defeat to the Lions they will need to be a lot more street smarts. Yes, the Griquas have struggled this season but if you give them an inch at home, they will take a mile.

Verdict: Griquas (+12) 9/10 * forecast handicaps
There is a good Bulls side in there but they are struggling to gel at the minute. I can see them grabbing a win here but the Griquas will make it difficult. With that said, my money is on the hosts staying within the handicap.
