Amazulu Advance to Telkom Knockout Last 8

Two goals in four second-half minutes helped AmaZulu reach the Telkom Knockout quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Cape Town City at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday night.

Cape Town City began well though, with Siphelele Mthembu firing over from the edge of the box, while at the other end Marc van Heerden’s deflected free-kick on 13 minutes flew just wide.

Ten minutes later, Tade created the first big chance of the game when he picked out Ovidy Karuru, whose effort was cleared off the line, before the Argentine failed to make the most of the rebound.

And before the break, Nhlanhla Vilakazi’s rising volley skimmed inches over the crossbar as the hosts went into the dressing room on a high.

They continued to press after the restart, and after Ntuli’s low shot was easily gathered by Stephens, Tade produced a calm and collected finish from 12 yards out, with Thembela Sikhakhane producing a wonderful assist from the right flank.

And four minutes later, the City defence failed to deal with a throw-in as Kwanda Mngonyama dawdled on the ball, and Ntuli cleverly got ahead of the defender and poked in from a tight angle.

It proved enough for the KZN outfit as they sealed a deserved win at the expense of the MTN8 champions, who lacked creativity to be dumped out at the first hurdle.
