NFD: Week 10 Preview

Week 10 Preview

Our football writer previews the NDF Week 10 action which kicks off on Friday 1 November 2019.

Uthongathi continue to ride the crest of the GladAfrica Championship wave with the likes of newly-promoted JDR Stars and Ajax Cape Town breathing down their necks. Royal Eagles and TS Sporting are struggling on the wrong side of the table. How will this week’s action pan out?

Friday 1 November

Steenberg United 12/10
Draw 2/1
Real Kings 22/10
This should be a cracking contest between teams that are fighting to break into the top three with the hosts occupying sixth place and their opponents sitting just one spot above them. The home side are unbeaten in their last three games with two wins and a draw. On the other hand, the Magic Boys have lost only one of their last five matches. This should be a close encounter; I expect these teams to cancel each other out.

Saturday 2 November

Ajax Cape Town 9/10
Draw 22/10
Cape Umoya United 33/10
Magic Mosiatlhaga’s hat-trick overturned a 2-0 deficit against struggling TS Sporting to hand the Urban Warriors a 3-2 victory. Their crosstown rivals head into this one off the back of a 1-0 victory over struggling Royal Eagles. Ajax are eyeing automatic promotion, and these are the kind of games they will target. I foresee the home side collecting maximum points.

JDR Stars 8/10
Draw 22/10
Free State Stars 33/10
In the shock result of the previous gameweek, Tshakhuma thrashed JDR Stars 3-1 and they seek redemption against a Free State Stars side that has won only two games out of nine. The hosts lie in second place and a win here could ensure they maintain their place in the top three. Back the rookies on home soil.

Mbombela United 16/10
Draw 2/1
TS Galaxy16/10
This is a game between two sides who are in desperate need of results. Mbombela lost 1-0 to newly-promoted Steenberg United while TS Galaxy lost 2-0 to Nigerian giants, Enyimba, in the CAF Confederations Cup despite giving a good account of themselves. Dan Malesela’s men should be too strong for a struggling team and I’m backing them to triumph.

University of Pretoria 9/10
Draw 22/10
TS Sporting 28/10
University of Pretoria looked so formidable in their 2-0 victory over Mbombela with Pogiso Mahlangu and Kamohelo Mahatsi finding the back of the net. Experienced Collins Mbesuma also came off the bench and gave the team the much-need focal point characterised by his hold up play and the captain, Clifford Ngobeni, was calling the shots in the middle of the park. TS Sporting are still in the relegation zone after squandering a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Ajax Cape Town and I don’t see them winning here. My money is on AmaTuks.

Royal Eagles 2/1
Draw 2/1
Tshakhuma 13/10
Royal Eagles who have won one match so far this season are rooted to the bottom of the table and they face a Tshakhuma side who snapped a four-match winless run when they beat high-flying JDR Stars 3-1 on Saturday. This is a tricky one and it can go either way, but I’ll take my chance with TTM against the bottom-placed side.

Uthongathi 6/10
Draw 24/10
Jomo Cosmos 9/2
Uthongathi saw their three-match winning streak come to an end last week when they were held to a goalless draw by Richards Bay. They still top the standings despite having played a game less that JDR Stars and Ajax Cape Town who lie second and third respectively. Jomo Cosmos managed to hold Swallows to a goalless draw the last time out, but I don’t think they can hold their own against the table toppers. The Cane Cutters should emerge victorious here.

Sunday 3 November

Swallows 2/1
Draw 2/1
Richards Bay 13/10
Swallows continued their indifferent start to the season when they played out to a goalless draw against relegation-threatened Jomo Cosmos. Richards Bay are three points adrift of third-placed Ajax Cape Town and they should fancy their chances against the struggling Johannesburg outfit. The New Rich Boys held top-placed Uthongathi to a goalless draw last week. Back the visitors to steal a victory here.

TREBLE @ 9/2
Ajax Cape Town Win 9/10
University of Pretoria Win 9/10
Uthongathi Win 6/10
