Spanish La Liga: Week 10 Preview

Week 10 Preview

Our football expert previews the Spanish La Liga Week 10 action which kicks off on Friday 26 October 2018.

Barcelona were merciless last weekend when they smashed in-form Sevilla 4-2 at the Camp Nou. The bad news is that they will be Messi-less in this Sunday’s El Clasico after their star player and team captain Lionel Messi broke his arm.

Real Madrid are still without a win in their last four league games, scoring one goal in the process. That has left the club scratching their head over whether to sack head coach Julen Lopetegui a week before the derby or not. Espanyol and Alaves are enjoying a dream start as they sit second and third on the table. Has Lopetegui been the problem at Real Madrid?

Friday 26 October

Real Valladolid 43/20
Draw 21/10
Espanyol 14/10
Gameweek 10 kicks-off at probably the worst pitch there is in Europe’s elite leagues. Their ground may not be good but the form has been superb as Real Valladolid are on a four-match winning streak and are unbeaten in the last five games. The Blanquivioletas have been brilliant in defence, conceding only six goals in the nine matches played – including three consecutive clean sheets.

Espanyol won their first game on the road last Sunday when they beat bottom-of-the-table Huesca 2-0, thanks to Borja Iglesias’ brace. That win saw the Catalan club move to second place on the log, one point behind log leaders Barcelona. This is really a tough game to predict, with two in-form teams going head-to-head. That said, avoid picking a result and back Both Teams to Score at 19/20.

Saturday 27 October

Girona 15/20
Draw 26/10
Rayo Vallecano 7/2
The Saturday fixtures kick-off with a low key affair, where two teams who are struggling for form and desperate for points go head to head. This is an important game for both teams in the quest to survive relegation. Girona enjoyed a dream season in the previous campaign where they were amongst the teams fighting for a spot in Europe.

The Catalan club lost their head coach at the start of the season and that has proven to be a major blow for the hosts. Rayo Vallecano will hope for a repeat of what they did in the season Girona got promoted from the Segunda division, where they took six points from their opponents. We can’t trust neither team on current form, back Under 2.5 Goals at 9/10.
Athletic Bilbao 29/20
Draw 22/10
Valencia 39/20
Just when we thought Athletic Bilbao are back in it when they picked up a point at the Camp Nou, that all counted for nothing as the Lions went on to lose 3-1 at home to Real Sociedad and drew 1-1 with Eibar.

Valencia continued to be the league’s drawing kings this season when they picked up their seventh draw in nine matches. That horrendous record has seen this season’s Champions League campaigners sit 14th on the log with 10 points to their name. Back these sides to cancel each other out at 22/10.

Levante 23/20
Draw 23/10
Leganes 5/2
Levante were the only team to beat Barcelona last season and they once again proved to be the league’s giant killers after they beat Real Madrid at the Bernadeau.

The Frogs will be full of confidence coming into this game against a team that’s struggling for form, especially on the road where they have lost four of their five matches. Back Levante to walk past Leganes at a valuable 23/20.

Celta Vigo 23/20
Draw 47/20
Eibar 49/20
Celta Vigo come into this game in low spirits after they were beaten 1-0 by Alaves at home last weekend. That was the Celtic’s first defeat at home this season, although they have only won once with three draws from their five matches played. They find themselves 13th on the table with 10 points, one point behind their opponents, Eibar, who are 12th on the log.

Both these sides have conceded 13 goals from nine outings, with both of them keeping just one clean sheet so far this season. Both Teams to Score looks to be a certainty here at 15/20.

Atletico Madrid 5/10
Draw 29/10
Real Sociedad 57/10
After a slow start to the season, Atletico Madrid turned things around and they are now unbeaten in eight matches. As usual they have the best defensive record, having conceded just five goals so far and four of those were on the road. At home, Diego Simeone’s boys have been outstanding, winning three of the four matches and keeping three clean sheets in the process.

If we need a team that can beat Atletico at home then it would be Sociedad, this is a team that enjoys playing away and their record speaks for itself, winning three of the five games on the road and picking up 10 points in the process. Not an easy game but back Atletico Madrid for a narrow win at 5/10.

Sunday 28 October

Getafe 29/20
Draw 2/1
Real Betis 43/20
Getafe got back to winning ways when they beat new boys Rayo Vallecano 2-1 in their backyard. That win ended their four-match winless run and took them to ninth on the standings. Real Betis suffered their third loss of the season when they succumb to a 1-0 defeat at home to Valladolid. These sides come into this game with identical form of three wins, three draws and three defeats.

It is Real Betis who claimed maximum points in this fixture last season. This is not a game that usually produces goals as under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of the last four league meetings. As the form suggest, get on Under 2.5 Goals at 5/10.

Barcelona 19/20
Draw 28/10
Real Madrid 5/2
The first El Clasico of the season will take place at the Camp Nou on Sunday and it will be the first time in 11 years that the derby will be played without Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is now at Juventus, while Messi has been ruled out for three weeks after he fractured his right arm during last Saturday’s 4-2 win over Sevilla.

Despite Barcelona being without Messi, I fancy the Catalans to come out on top here. Real Madrid have been dreadful with many of their star players low on confidence while the uncertainty surrounding Lopetegui isn’t helping. Back the Catalan giants for the win.

Deportivo Alaves 21/10
Draw 22/10
Villarreal 27/20
Alaves have been superb this season, winning five of their nine matches and that incredible form has seen them move third on the table ahead of teams like Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, only one point behind leaders Barcelona. If you think that’s a surprise than you haven’t seen the betting for this game.

Despite Alaves’ outstanding form, the hosts come into this game as 21/10 outsiders and the visitors are priced up as favourites. It’s difficult to understand that betting because Villarreal are yet to show up this season – they are 15th on the table, eight points behind the hosts who are yet to lose at home. Get on Alaves to continue their impressive form at a valuable 21/10.

Sevilla 1/4
Draw 52/10
Huesca 19/2
This is a good chance for Sevilla to bounce back to winning ways after being thrashed 4-2 at Barcelona last Saturday. They welcome the league debutants Huesca for the first time ever at the Seville stadium where they have scored five in the last two league matches.

This Sevilla team can’t stop scoring, having netted 20 goals in the nine games played, only Barcelona have scored more (23) – but let’s not forget eight of those goals came against Huesca. The visitors are also the highest conceding team, having shipped in 20 goals in nine matches, 15 of those came on the road. Get on Sevilla to win both halves at 14/10.

Barcelona Win 19/20
Sevilla Win Both Halves 14/10
Levante Win 23/20
