French Ligue 1: Week 15 Preview

Football player steps on ball to control

Make sure to check out our betting preview for week 15’s action from the French top flight.

Not much has changed at the summit of Ligue 1 with PSG beating Toulouse 1-0 without the injured duo of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

This week the Parisian juggernaut travels south to take on Bordeaux. Elsewhere, Lyon travel to Lille in what should be a cracking encounter while Marseille are at home against Reims.

Friday 30 November

St-Etienne 1/1
Draw 23/10
Nantes 28/10
St-Etienne had their four-match unbeaten streak snapped away at Lyon last week as they went down 1-0. It’s hardly a disgrace to lose away at Lyon, but they’ll need to get back to winning ways this weekend at home against Nantes. They head into a tricky little period now before the winter break where – aside from Nantes – they’ll face the likes of Bordeaux, Marseille and Nice.

Nantes were disappointing last week at home where they were held to a 1-1 draw by Angers. They were rescued in the end by an Abdull Waris strike a minute from time which cancelled out Stephane Bahoken’s fifth-minute opener. Keep in mind that they’re unbeaten in their last five league encounters. Neither side has looked particularly threatening in front of goal over the last few weeks. Take under 2.5 total goals at 13/20 with this in mind.

Saturday 1 December

Lille 17/10
Draw 49/20
Lyon 15/10
Lille’s fast start to the season is now a distant memory as their slide down the table continues. Two defeats and a draw in their last three matches has seen Lyon and Montpellier leapfrog them on the standings. They now face a very tough home assignment against Lyon. A loss here would likely see them fall out of the European places altogether with Marseille one point behind them and heavy favourites at home against Reims.

Lyon’s exertions in the Champions League against Manchester City in midweek will likely have an effect on them heading into this fixture. They’ll probably surrender plenty of possession to the English champions and do plenty of chasing. There’ll be some heavy legs out at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy at the weekend. I still think that Lyon will have enough in the tank to snatch a draw at the very least. Away double chance at 9/20.

Monaco 29/20
Draw 22/10
Montpellier 39/20
Monaco – after 12 league matches without a win – finally claimed a victory when they beat Caen 1-0 away from home at the weekend. A 54th-minute Falcao goal was enough to see them through. They’re still in the automatic relegation places, though, and will need a massive performance to come away with anything at home against a very good Montpellier team.

Montpellier would have been disappointed not to have come away with all three points last weekend against Stade Rennais. Michel Der Zakarian will demand a better showing from his team this week as they look to break a two-game winless streak in the league. Monaco’s victory against a very average Caen side is likely just a false dawn. Take Montpellier to claim the points here.

Nimes 19/20
Draw 47/20
Amiens 29/10
We’re off to the Stade des Costières next where Nimes will square off against relegation-threatened Amiens. The hosts will come into this game with a bit of confidence following their 1-0 away Strasbourg. They’ve only tasted defeat once in four matches, picking up seven points in the process. They look a great prospect against Amiens.

Amiens have only managed to pick up three points from a possible 15 in recent weeks as their relegation woes begin to deepen. They were handily beaten at home before the international break by Marseille and you just don’t see them picking up any points away at Nimes. Get on the home win here.

Guingamp 7/4
Draw 22/10
Nice 16/10
Guingamp’s mini-renaissance has come to an end it seems. After going five league games unbeaten, the bottom club have lost their last three league fixtures, conceding nine goals in the process. The last thing they’ll need now is the visit of a strong Nice outfit.

Nice have been in great touch of late, winning all four of their last league outings as their surge up the table continues. They were 2-0 victors over Lille before the international break and will be desperately disappointed if they don’t pick up all three points this weekend. Massive value on the away win here. Definitely one to fatten up the weekend multiples.

Angers 15/20
Draw 5/2
Caen 39/10
Angers followed up an impressive 1-0 home win over Montpellier before the international break with a solid draw away at Nantes last weekend. They’re still hovering uncomfortably close to the relegation zone but their fears can be eased slightly with a strong showing against an unfancied Caen outfit.

Caen have been on an awful run of late, failing to win in their last six matches. You simply can’t see where their next win will come from as their poor end to last season has spilt over into 2018/19. Last week they handed Monaco their first league win in 13 matches. There’s only one winner here. Have a go on Angers at 15/20.

Sunday 2 December

Toulouse 21/20
Draw 47/20
Dijon 26/10
Toulouse actually did pretty well to only lose against PSG 1-0 in Paris last week, with Edinson Cavani scoring the only goal of the fixture. They finished the game stronger than the more fancied Parisians and will look to carry that momentum forward into this weekend’s tie.

Dijon were full value for their home draw against Bordeaux last week. It was a much-needed result after they suffered back to back defeats against Nimes and Marseille before the international break. They’re still hovering just above the automatic relegation places. Under 2.5 goals is the way to go here at 7/10. Neither of these teams have been at all prolific this season.

Marseille 4/10
Draw 36/10
Reims 6/1
Marseille are a frightening proposition at home for even the best teams in the league. Reims simply don’t have the fire-power to compete here. Back Marseille on the (-1) handicap at 21/20.

Stade Rennais 17/20
Draw 51/20
Strasbourg 33/10
Stade Rennais will probably play this fixture with heavy legs after their Thursday Europa League trip to the Czech Republic. They drew back to back games before the international break against strong opposition in the form of Nantes and Montpellier.

Strasbourg have enjoyed a pretty good season up until now. They did suffer a surprise 1-0 home defeat against Nimes before the international break and will look to bounce back. You have to fancy Rennes to grab the points here at 17/20.

Bordeaux 15/2
Draw 9/2
PSG 3/10
Bordeaux ultimately put me out of my Ligue 1 treble last week in a match they really should have won against Dijon. The tame 0-0 draw sees the southwestern club remain in the bottom half of the table. I doubt that they’ll be able put up much of a fight against PSG who should have both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe back for the fixture. Take the away side to win to nil – PSG have only conceded seven goals in 14 games this season. 13/10 is big value.

Treble tipped at 8.06/1
Nice win 16/10
Marseille (-1) 21/20
Toulouse / Dijon under 2.5 goals 7/10
