5 Talking Points from the Sporting Weekend

Sporting athletes from various sporting codes

Liverpool remained at the top of the table, the UEFA Champions League heats up, Tim Paine calls Virat Kohli a "Big Head", and Jose Mourinho is sacked by Manchester United. View all the talking points from this past weekend.

Liverpool Stay at the Summit

A brilliant late brace from Jurgen Klopp's super substitute - Xherdan Shaqiri, confirmed Liverpool's place at the summit of the Premier League table. The result means that Jurgen Klopp and the Reds remain unbeaten after picking up their first win against Manchester United at Anfield since 2013.

Liverpool on paper, you could say, completely outplayed Manchester United with 64% possession and 36 shots at goal, making it a busy day at the office for the sublime David De Gea. It was a defensive display from the Red Devils who would've settled for a draw. They are currently placed in sixth place on 26 points, eight points adrift from Arsenal who are in fourth and 19 points off the log leaders.

UEFA Champions League heats up

We're into the business end of the UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid's chances of retaining the title look as slim as ever this year due to a string of lacklustre performances this season, after the loss of Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United will host Paris Saint Germain for the first time in competition history, while Jurgen Klopp will face his old rivals Bayern Munich in what will be a tough two-leg encounter.

Qualification Predictions:
  • Manchester City
  • Juventus
  • PSG
  • Dortmund
  • Barcelona
  • Roma
  • Ajax
  • Liverpool

Tim Paine calls Virat Kohli a "Big Head"

Australia claimed a 146 run victory against India in a comical series of events. With 287 to win on the final days play and at 115/5, India lost five wickets for 21 runs,  Australia's win means they've levelled the series 1 - 1 with the third Test to start on Boxing Day, and the final Test to be played from the 3rd of January 2019.

The Australian's ended a long spell without a victory after their 'sandpaper gate' against South Africa.
But the talk of the series is the war of words between captains, Virat Kholi and Tim Paine which will lend for some anticipation for the remaining Tests.

"If he messes up it's 2-0", Virat Kholi said to Paine while he was batting at the crease.

"You still have to bat, big head" said Tim Paine in response to Kholi. Nathan Lyon removed Kohli for 17 from an edge that was caught by Usman Khawaja.

With the stump microphone on, Tim Paine is also heard saying to Murali Vijay while the Indian cricker was batting at the crease.

"I know he's your captain but you can't seriously like him as a bloke."

We're set for fireworks for the remainder of this Test series.
