International Rugby: Georgia v Scotland Preview

Scotland will be looking to claim another big win over the Georgian’s when the two sides lock horns on Friday the 6th of September.

Scotland will be looking for a solid send-off at Murrayfield when they tackle the Georgian’s for the second time in the space of six days. The hosts had no problems dispatching their opponents last weekend and they could well run up another big score this Friday evening.

Scotland
Gregor Towsend’s men finally hit their attacking straps last weekend as they scored five tries on the way to beating Georgia 13-44 out in Tbilisi. While there were still areas of concern for Townsend – the Scottish scrum was put under pressure at times – the former fly-half will be happy with how his team went.

We could well see some changes for this one with Duncan Taylor likely to come into the centres, while a couple of fringe backrowers could get a run. It will be intriguing to see who starts at ten. With Finn Russel having started last week’s game, Townsend may well look to rotate and bring in understudy Adam Hastings who got the final 20 minutes out in Tbilisi.

Georgia
I have to say, I was bitterly disappointed with the Georgian’s performance last Saturday as their backline showed a staggering lack of creativity when they had the ball. This is rather worrying, as while their scrum continues to function really well, their backline have no idea how to build on from this solid base.

Another worry for the Georgian’s is the defensive side of their game. They shipped 20 points against the Kings last Tuesday and 44 against the ‘Scots. You’re simply not going to win a rugby match conceding an average of 32 points per game.

Verdict: Scotland
I was hoping Georgia would have evolved their game but based on last weekend’s evidence this simply has not happened. I can see the’Scots putting over 50 points past their opponents this Friday.
