Dolphins fight back on batting day at Centurion

Prenelan Subrayen bowling for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins in the 2019/20 4 Day Franchise Series

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins fought fire with fire in the afternoon session with the bat as they finished the day 188 for three, trailing the Momentum Multiply Titans’ first innings score by 253 runs going into day three of their CSA 4-Day Franchise Series clash on Wednesday.

Youngsters Grant Roelofsen and Marques Ackerman took the match to the hosts with the bat with both registering half centuries on day two as the Dolphins scored at four runs an over for the majority of the 50 overs they batted for on day two.

The Titans continued where they left off on day one and it was the experienced Farhaan Behardien who went to his hundred in the morning session.

He and Dayaan Galiem registered a partnership of 109 before the latter fell for a patient 44.

The Titans were in the stronger position at 400 for six, however the Dolphins fought back well to take the final four wickets for 41 runs.

Behardien was dismissed for 114 and Rubin Hermann added 21 at the back end of the innings.

Off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen was the pick of the Dolphins bowlers picking up three for 97 in nearly 25 overs.

A pair of wickets was the return for Andile Phehlukwayo, Okuhle Cele and Daryn Dupavillon while Eathan Bosch was disciplined finishing with one wicket for 54 in 29 overs.

It was an unfortunate start with the bat for the Dolphins who lost Vaughn van Jaarsveld to a run-out for 13.

However Grant Roelofsen and Marques Ackerman made sure that they made up for the early wicket and put together a positive stand of 119 runs in just over 26 overs.

Ackerman was by far the more aggressive scoring briskly as he notched up a first half century of the season with 69 off just 62 deliveries. His innings included nine fours and two sixes.

At the other end it was a measured approach from Roelofsen who went to his first half century for the Dolphins.

Roelofsen then continued until he was dismissed for 79 from 166 balls. The Dolphins had moved to 183 for three, trailing the Titans by 258 runs.

The Dolphins added another five runs with Cody Chetty finishing 16 not out and night watchman Prenelan Subrayen five not out at the close of play.

The Dolphins trail by 253 runs going into the penultimate day on Wednesday.
