International Racing: Kranji (Poly / Turf) – Friday 29th November 2019

Jockeys ride horses

The last meeting in November and there are just the eight races to set punters up for the weekend, this Black Friday. LUCK OF MASTER has plenty of scope for improvement, after just three starts here and he lands a plum draw this time.

A lot looks to be in his favour here and he should be very hard to beat. ARNANTARA is in solid form and he looks an obvious inclusion before his draw is taken into consideration. That may create a bit of doubt for punters and hence a bit of value may be on offer. All things considered, he looks a big runner and should be worth following.

Race 1 – 12:50 – Class 5 – 1100m (Poly)
Selections: 2 – 1 – 4 – 3 – 7
MAKE U FAMOUS should kick the meeting off on a winning note for punters. He followed up that win in maiden company in his penultimate start, with a solid effort in this class last time. He boxed on well, despite receiving the 5-point penalty for the win in his previous start. From an improved draw this time, Rodd retains the ride and he should be the right one to follow. PAPERBACK TROOPER has slipped 5-points in the ratings in his last four starts and he has started to show signs of a big run. He has his 40th start here and gets the services of the 3kg claiming Chin Chee Seng to do duty. From a useful draw, he has the recent form over this sort of trip to make a major impact and must be included. LUCK MAK MAK has also slipped in the ratings and he too has been showing some signs of a big run. He gets a further 3kg removed from his back, as a result of the claiming apprentice booked to ride him and from a useful draw, he will be rallying late and he should be right there. MY WIN appears to be the best of the rest, having finished just off them in recent times. With the continued slip in ratings, he should start to get closer and with Sundradas John retaining the ride, he must be included.

Race 2 – 13:20 – Restricted Maiden (WFA) – 1600m (Turf)
Selections: 8 – 11 – 10 – 1 – 9
CIRCUIT STAR has only had the two starts so far and he has landed tough draws for both. With that said, he hasn’t disgraced himself in either and he showed good improvement in his latest effort when making late headway. From a much-improved draw this time, he gets the services of Matthew Kellady and he looks well suited to the step-up in trip. The son of Showcasing still has plenty of scope to improve and must go in. MERYL took two runs to get going, but her last three starts have shown a fair amount of promise. She was just touched off in her penultimate start when overcoming a tough draw and she followed that up with a fair effort last time. From another wide draw, she will be forced to settle off the early speed and required to use her late finish to make up the ground. She looks suited to the mile and rates a big threat if finding some luck. SABAH STAR has finished just off them in both starts so far and the son of Pins will be cherry ripe for this run. From a fair draw, Daniel Moor takes the ride and with the expected improvement to come, he should be right there at the finish. MY SWEETHEART finished just behind the former last time when making his second-course appearance. He clearly enjoyed the extra furlong and should have no issues stepping up to the mile here. From a tricky draw, he too will be dropped out and with the expected speed on, he should be running on strongly late.

Race 3 – 13:50 – Class 4 – 1200m (Turf)
Selections: 3 – 2 – 6 – 8 – 9
LIM’S PASSION has been in solid form in his last four starts, despite picking up tricky draws in all four. He finds a much-improved draw this time out and he should relish this reduced trip. He is a two-time winner and he has only missed the first four places on one occasion, form 11 starts. With the speed throughout expected to be a hot one, he will be running on from just off the pace and looks a worthy challenger for the lions share of the prize money. NO FUN NO GAIN was impressive on his return to racing last time out, after a 4,5-month absence. Having performed respectively in Group company towards the backend of that last campaign, he should pick up another victory at this level soon. Michael Rodd takes the ride here and from a plum draw, he’s a big contender. VULCAN is a one-time winner from eight starts, having missed the first three on just three occasions. He has featured prominently over this course and distance in his last three efforts and off his current mark of 54, he should go very close to winning soon. After that good latest, he lands another fair draw and a repeat of that run will bring him right into contention. BOOM SHAKALAKA drops back into this class after a modest effort in Gr2 company last time. That run was over 3,5 months ago and he has since returned with a smart trial of late. He has won and placed in his three career efforts, all of which have come over this course and distance and he clearly has ability. From pole position, his regular rider jumps aboard and he must go in.

Race 4 – 14:20 – Restricted Maiden – 1600m (Turf)
Selections: 2 – 5 – 8 – 10 – 3
MIGHTY VAIN has only had the three starts so far and he has improved with each outing. He clearly enjoyed stepping up to the 1400m last time and he should relish the mile here. Drawn well, he gets the services of apprentice Shafrizal who takes the 2kg’s off his carded weight and with the scope for further improvement he looks hard to oppose here. UPGRADED had no luck in running last time out when caught wide around the turn. His connections would’ve been hoping for better after that promising penultimate effort in Class 5 company. From an improved draw this time, he should get close to finding the run of the race and deserves plenty of respect. SHOW ROYALE gave an improved performance last time when making just his second official appearance. He lands a plum draw here and Collett jumps aboard the son of Showcasing. With the expected improvement to come, he cannot be discounted. ALICEINWONDERLAND was also a big improver in her second outing, last time. Both efforts so far have been over the 1400m and with JP van der Merwe retaining the ride, she’ll certainly enjoy the extra furlong. If finding a bit of luck from gate 8, she should be involved in the finish and must be included.

Race 5 – 14:50 – Class 4 – 1200m (Turf)
Selections: 7 – 6 – 8 – 1 – 3
NO REGRETS is a two-time winner from just four starts and the son of Showcasing still has plenty of scope for more improvement. He won both starts before a fair effort in Gr2 company last time out and he now returns from a 4-months absence from competitive racing. Since that last start, he has impressed in a recent trial and that would’ve bought him on nicely. With the blinkers fitted and a plum draw to mount his challenge from, he looks the horse to beat. EASTIGER has been thereabouts since returning from a 4-month absence in September, aside from his penultimate effort when drawn wide over a trip too far. Back to the 6-furlongs this time, he gets the services of the 4kg claiming apprentice, Nizar and from a good draw they must be included. SUPER RAY has been threatening of late and had every chance to land his 2nd victory last time when going down a neck in second. He drops in trip and finds himself a handy draw for his 10th start here and from a prominent position, he should be fighting this out. The top-weighted BARBEQUE has slipped in the ratings and showed the expected improvement when dropping into this class last time out. The reduced trip certainly helped as well and over the same course and distance this time, he lands a plum draw and looks a big threat. Collett retains the ride and they must be considered big contenders.

Race 6 – 15:20 – Class 2 – 1400m (Turf)
Selections: 3 – 5 – 4 – 12 – 8
WEBSTER went close to winning the Gr2 over this course and distance last time. He has shown up well in this class prior to that impressive effort behind FAME STAR and the ultra-consistent son of Showcasing looks set for a big run here. From a fair draw, a repeat of his best form over this track and trip should be enough to win this. NEPEAN finished right behind the top selection last time when overcoming a very tough draw. That was his fourth run back after a 5-month absence and the 4-time winning son of Roman Emperor lands an improved barrier this time. He found traffic at the start last time, so he will be looking for a smoother start here and with Kellady back up, he must go in. BE BEE also finished right behind the top selection last time, but he finds himself facing a tough barrier to overcome once again and as such, he will be relying on other factors to find a good early position. With some luck, he will be making late headway over the final two furlongs and he is not without a chance. PER INPOWER is a progressive son of Per Incanto and he has sailed through Class 4 company, culminating in a solid effort against Class 3 opposition last time. He won that start by just under a length and he finds himself drawn well for a go at Class 2 level. A four-time winner from just the ten starts, he has plenty of scope for more and he is not without a chance.

Race 7 – 15:50 – Class 4 – 1800m (Turf)
Selections: 5 – 6 – 10 – 9 – 2
LUCK OF MASTER has been impressive so far, landing a win and place from just the three starts. He has overcome two wide draws in his last two starts, with his latest being full of merit. He ran on strongly from far back in that run and the improved draw will go some way to assist him here. The son of Mastercraftsman is bred for the extra furlong and if building on that last start, he should be tough to beat here. REDDOT RISING has slipped to a competitive rating and he is due for a big run now, having finished just off them of late. He lands a useful draw here and he’ll relish the extra, having featured well over this course and distance three starts back, when overcoming a tough draw. Collett takes the mount and they must be included. MIDDLE KINGDOM has also slipped in the ratings and he drops back a furlong, having contended over 2000m in his last four starts. He disappointed last time out when things didn’t go his way from a wide draw and he will be looking for a little more luck this time. Back in Class 4 company this time, he will be looking to repeat that penultimate run and if doing so, he will be a major contender. HIGHGATE is in solid form of late and despite the fact that he is yet to pick up a win in his five outings so far, his winning turn is just around the corner. He will relish the extra ground here and with the blinkers fitted this time, he is worth including from a wide gate.

Race 8 – 16:20 – Class 4 – 1200m (Turf)
Selections: 1 – 2 – 3 – 7 – 10
ARNANTARA has placed in both starts so far, over this course and distance and in this class. The son of Darci Brahma still has loads of scope to improve, if negating gate 11 here. He gets the services of the 2kg claiming Shafrizal this time and he has the form to prevail here. LIM’S ZOOM has finished outside the first four places on just one occasion, from his 11 starts here. He has managed to pick up two wins along the way and he looks a major threat on his last three attempts, since dropping back to sprints. From a reasonable draw this time, he will be right there at the finish and must go in. SILENT FORCE raced wide without cover last time and was reported to be in respiratory distress after that run. With the above in mind, he can be forgiven for that below-par effort and the plum draw should improve his chances tenfold this time. On his form over this course and distance prior to that run, he deserves plenty of respect and the consistent son of Oasis Dream must be included. MR BACHARACH was showing promising signs of picking up his first career win, before that recent holiday and he returned with a solid trial recently, which should get him going nicely. From a useful draw, Kellady retains the ride and despite this being a prep-run for a campaign over further, he can feature here.
