International Racing: Kranji – Sunday 17th November 2019

Jockeys ride horses

Ten races at Kranji rounds off the racing in Singapore this weekend, on a card peppered with tricky racing to analyse.

RISE OF EMPIRE will hopefully get punters off to a winning note in the second race on the card, where he will be looking to build on a promising debut run just over a week ago. He is drawn wide, but with Duric up that shouldn’t deter his followers. In the very next race, the half-brother to the South African dual Vodacom Durban July winner (DO IT AGAIN), MIGHTY EMPEROR, looks to have all the boxes ticked to give a good account of himself. He should be a chunky price for his followers to make a nice return on their investment.

Race 1 – 06:55
Selections: 2 – 7 – 3 – 10 – 4
FLAUNT has been a consistent sort in a grade above this and he lands a useful draw for his second run after a short rest. He is drawn well and having dropped 4-points in the ratings in his last two starts, he is starting to look competitive off his current mark of 48. He is well suited to the 1000m on the Poly and should be tough to beat. SUPER EMPEROR is also a grade dropper after two modest performances in Class 4 company. Both of those runs originated from tough draws and his luck has finally changed in that department. He will jump from barrier 1 this time and the 2kg claiming See retains the ride. Having dropped 5-points in the ratings, he too looks competitive off his current mark of 46 and from a handy position, he’ll be chasing them home with winning intent. FOREVER GOOD also drops into Class 5 company after a campaign against stronger opposition. He is a useful performer over this course and distance and Mark Ewe regains the ride, having won on him the last time he was engaged upon the son of Battle Paint. That was five starts back and if finding his best form here, he should be involved in the finish. I AM INVISIBLE has been in good consistent form in this league of late and that is on the back of a 6-point slip in his rating. He finds a plum draw here and Michael Rodd takes the mount for this five-year-old geldings’ 14th career outing. With the expected improvement, he must be included.

Race 2 – 07:25
Selections: 1 – 7 – 9 – 2 – 4
RISE OF EMPIRE showed plenty of ability in that debut effort just under a month ago, over this course and distance. That was also in a Restricted Maiden and despite the fact that he is drawn wide here, he has plenty more to come and the gate speed he showed in that debut effort should go a long way to nullifying the draw. Duric takes the mount and should be the best bet on the card. FOUNTAIN OF FAME has only had the two starts so far and he too has plenty of room to improve. He showed big improvement in his follow up effort when landing an improved draw and Moore retains the ride. The son of Charm Spirit jumps from barrier 8 this time and he looks the biggest threat to the top selection. LIM’S UNIQUE did well to overcome barrier 10 on debut, to box on late for a third-place finish. He lands an identical draw this time, which certainly doesn’t boost his chances, but he gets the services of the more experienced Benny Woodworth to do duty this time. With natural improvement to come, he too looks a threat and must be included. FAST AND FEARLESS has his 4th start here and he has been knocking on the door in all three runs prior to this. He made steady headway last time out when finding himself towards the back of the field as they turned for home. If he can get a little closer to the front this time, he’ll give a bold account of himself and must be considered.

Race 3 - 07:55
Selections: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 – 7
MIGHTY EMPEROR is the half-brother to a South African Champion and he has been an example of consistency in Singapore. He has improved with every run since dropping to this class and off his current rating, he should win soon if not this time around. His best recent effort came over this course and distance last time and Vlad Duric retains the ride. From a reasonable draw, he should be a bit of value and is worth following. DAZZLE GOLD has shown up well in his last two starts, since receiving a 6-point penalty on the back of an impressive hat-trick. He finished just behind the top selection last time out, when overcoming a tricky draw and his chances will be buoyed with a much-improved draw this time. Rodd jumps aboard the son of Lemon Drop Kid and he looks a big danger. MATSURIBAYASHI has been in exceptional form in the past 4-months and he lands a very useful draw this time, for a bid at following his triumphant last outing with another one. He is certainly distance suited and must be included. GOLAZO beat the top two selections last time out and he received a 7-point penalty for that impressive win, over this course and distance. Drawn 12, he found the front of the pack with ease and boxed on gamely in the closing stages. From pole position this time, he’ll get there with ease and with only 6 other challengers to worry about this time, he could follow up.

Race 4 – 08:25
Selections: 5 – 7 – 8 – 1 – 4
CLERGYMAN was impressive on debut when making up a ton of ground in the closing stages for just a 3-length beating. Drawn wide, he was dropped out early on and from an improved draw this time, he is going to relish the extra furlong. Joseph Azzopardi retains the ride and looks the likely winner here. VALENCIA has finished 2nd in both starts so far, with his best effort coming last time out when going down narrowly under Duric. That was also his second attempt over this course and distance and he finds a plum draw for his third effort. With plenty of scope for more, he looks a big threat to the top selection. GLENAFTON put up a solid effort last time out when overcoming a tricky draw. He finished right behind the second selection and he lands a much-improved draw this time. With just the 7 starts to his name, he has scope for further improvement and should be right there at the business end. WHISTLE GRAND has been featuring prominently in all five of his starts so far and he should enjoy the step-up in trip, as he returns to the Turf course. From another handy draw, Michael Rodd jumps aboard and the son of Coats Choice should also be involved in the finish, in what appears to be a trappy event.

Race 5 – 08:55
Selections: 6 – 1 – 3 – 2 – 7
BIG REGARDS has dropped in the ratings and he is starting to look very competitive off his current mark of 43. He has shown good improvement since reverting to this class in his last two starts. Vlad Duric jumps aboard the son of Darci Brahma and he will be one of the early leaders. On his current trajectory, a big run can be expected by his followers and he should be tough to beat. CARNELIAN is a class dropper, having slipped 7-points in the ratings in her last five starts. Beaten by just 1.10 lengths in her last attempt over this course and distance three starts back, she looks set to relish this decrease in trip and a bold showing can be expected. LUCKY TIGER was a course and distance winner last time out and he received a 6-point penalty for that win, with the 4kg claiming Nizar looking to nullify the extra weight. He has a tricky draw to overcome but he is in solid form and must be included once again. ELITE BEAST is another class dropper to line up at the start and he’ll relish this return to the Poly track, after a disappointing last start on Turf. He was drawn wide and never really made an impression. From barrier 1, he will be looking to build on that decent penultimate start over this course and distance and against this lesser opposition, he could go close.

Race 6 – 09:30
Selections: 7 – 4 – 2 – 6 – 1
THOTH WARRIOR jumps from a plum draw this time, after a game performance last time out when overcoming barrier 11. He has dropped 6 points in the ratings in his last five starts and he has been very competitive in recent times. Off his current mark, he should find the winners box soon. A speedy sort, he likes this surface and should be tough to beat. ALARANCH is drawn widest, but he gets the service of Duric who will be looking to go forward in the early parts. He has taken the recent rise in ratings very effectively and on the back of some ultra-consistent form, he looks well set to make a big impression. MISS MICHELLE was super impressive last time out when relishing the significant decline in trip to smash the opposition by 3 lengths. She received a 7-point penalty for that commanding win, but one gets the feeling that she will be knocking on the door again, on the back of some solid form. GANGNAM CLASSIC had a tough draw to negate last time out, over the 1100m and Duric may have wanted to get him a little closer to the front. Despite that, he boxed on well in the closing stages to find third and he’ll certainly benefit from the improved draw this time. A significant factor here is the 4kg claim which should give him a big advantage and he is sure to give plenty of cheek to the top selections this time.

Race 7 – 10:05
Selections: 4 – 8 – 9 – 12 – 13
CAORUNN has started to show signs of a big run since dropping into this class three starts back, with 6 points being shaved off his rating since then. He lands a plum draw for his third run back after a short absence and Kellady retains the ride after a respectable effort last time. With this being his peak run, he will be cherry ripe and should be tough to beat this time. FLYING TOURBILLON was victorious on debut, over this course and distance and the son of Fighting Son will certainly have more to come. He does have gate 12 to overcome this time and that will make things a whole lot tougher. If finding cover, he should have enough in the tank to mount a big finish and that should be enough to bring him right into contention again. ROMANTIC was an impressive winner in his penultimate start when overcoming a tricky draw to win at the second time of asking. He wasn’t disgraced in his first attempt at this level in his subsequent outing and that was also from a wide barrier. He lands yet another tough draw, but with plenty of scope for more improvement to come, he should box on well in the closing stages and must be included. LIM’S RIPPLE has dropped 10-points in the ratings in his last five starts and he finally lands a draw where he will be able to choose his position. Off his current mark, he should start to show big improvement and he looks well handicapped to do just that.

Race 8 – 10:40
Selections: 6 – 1 – 4 – 10 – 8
PEGASUS JUNIOR has dropped in the ratings and is starting to show signs of a big run. He lands a wide draw this time, but Michael Rodd rode him in his penultimate start and he knows him well. He will be looking to get him over to find a bit of early cover and he will be sure to give a bold challenge late. INVISIBLE finished just in front of the top selection last time out, but he is 2.5kg worse of at the weights having finished just 0.30 lengths in front of the former. With just the 6 starts to his name, he has plenty of improvement to come and with Beuzelin up from a reasonable draw he should be involved in the finish. TUSCAN ARTIST has improved with every run, since dropping into this league three starts back. He has dropped 6-points in the ratings since then and on his current trajectory from a good draw, he looks a major threat. The blinkers go on and he must be considered at a decent price. CAI POH WANG gave a solid account of himself in his penultimate start and the draw was clearly his undoing in that follow-up run last time. Both runs came over this course and distance with Woodworth in the irons. From barrier 4 this time, he will be looking to build on that penultimate run and must be considered.

Race 9 – 11:15
Selections: 4 – 2 – 5 – 1 – 7
AUTUMN ASSAULT was an ultra-impressive winner first-up after a 7-month absence from the course. A 5-length winner over this course and distance made him a three-time winner from nine attempts and he looks destined for greater things. Woodworth regains the mount this time and he lands a plum draw where a rail run from just off the early speed will be his goal and he should be tough to collar late, despite the rise in class. RIVER RADIANCE is also a very promising young sort, with just the five starts for his three wins and two second-place finishes. He was impressive last time out when winning on his Class 3 debut and from another good draw, he should be progressive enough to nullify the 7-point penalty he received for that latest victory. With Michael Rodd up, he must be a big contender. ARARAT LADY has been in good consistent form since the start of her short career, having landed in the winners’ box three times from just the 10 outings. She clearly had no issues with the step up to this class last time out, but she lands another tricky draw here and that won’t help. With the more experienced Thompson in the irons, she’ll be looking for a little luck in running and can feature if things go her way. DUTROW has been in useful form and he has continued to drop in the ratings. Now off a mark of 76, he gets the services of the more experienced John Powell in the irons, as well as a slightly improved draw. He looks set up to go very close to winning and deserves plenty of respect.

Race 10 – 11:45
Selections: 11 – 6 – 10 – 9 – 1
KIMITONARA was an impressive course and distance winner last time, at just the 2nd time of asking. That was when beating SUPERMAX, who has since come out and won by a commanding 5-lengths, giving strength to the form line. Woodworth jumps aboard the son of Star Witness, for his first outing in Class 4 company and he should have the necessary scope to make him tough to beat. SURGE is a former Godolphin galloper having his Singapore debut here. He has taken well to the new environment, having shown plenty of promise in his two trials so far and if not too in need of the run, he should be a big factor to contend with. EASTIGER has been in useful form since returning from a 4-month absence. He may have come undone from the wide draw last time and his chances will be boosted from gate 5 this time. Collett retains and a repeat of his penultimate should bring him right into contention and he must be included. STAR BULLET has landed two tough draws to contend with in both his starts so far. He found more luck in his first outing, when boxing on well for a fifth-place finish, but found no such luck last time out. From pole position this time, things will be a little different and he has plenty of scope to make a big impression.
