International Racing: Sha Tin – Sunday 10th November 2019

Jockeys ride horses

An interesting card of 10 events awaits punters this Sunday 10th November 2019, with the headline being the Panasonic Cup, a Class 1 event over 1400m. That is the 7th race on the card, where the value bet arises.

NOTHINGILIKEMORE has his peak run back and he loves this course and distance. He drops in class and should be worth following at a decent price. The race prior to that presents the best bet on the card, in the form of COBY OPA. He loves the All-Weather track and looks tough to beat, with Teetan in the irons.

Best Bet: COBY OPA (Race 6)

Race 1 – 06:15
Selections: 13 – 10 – 6 – 4 – 9
A very tricky event to analyse, with only a few contenders with form to go on. Of the raced runners, the obvious pick is JUDY’S STAR. The son of Sebring has been finishing just off them prior to his last start, which he clearly needed after a 3-month lay-off. He lands a much-improved draw with Purton retaining the ride and bar any tuned up first-timer, he should win this. SKY DARCI has his debut here, for the in-form Fownes stable. From a good draw, he should have the speed to feature and is worth including. GOOD VIEW CLARICO just tired late on debut over this course and distance, after showing plenty of early speed. Drawn wide this time, he looks capable of overcoming the draw to find a prominent early position and if doing so, could be a major contender in the finish. MOMENTUM HAPPY has finished just off them in his two starts prior to his latest effort when stepping up to the 1400m. He will enjoy the drop back to the 6-furlongs this time and from a plum draw, rates a threat with improvement to come. The potential for volatility in a race like this is high, so it is certainly worth playing with caution.

Race 2 – 06:45
Selections: 1 – 6 – 11 – 4 – 12
LE PANACHE has given a very good account of himself in the three starts he has had this season, since dropping in to this class. He overcame a wide draw last time out and rallied well over the final 2-furlongs to go down just over a length in second. From a much-improved draw here, he will be cherry ripe for this run and with the apprentice claiming the 10-pounds off his back, he looks tough to beat. LIVERBIRD STAR drops further in the ratings after showing up well last time out, when stepping up to the mile. Teetan knows him well and he sticks with the ride for his 3rd run back this term. If overcoming that tough draw, he will feature prominently in the closing stages and must be included. PROUD SKY has his third run this term and the signs are there that he has returned a sharper horse. Both comeback runs have been good and with Moreira up this time, he looks an attractive option to follow from a fair draw. He has won on him twice before from 5 outings, so he knows this son of Acclamation well. With a useful record over this course and distance and in this class, he must be included for his peak run here. THE JOY OF GIVING gave a useful account of himself last time out, when returning from a 4,5-month absence. He would’ve been in need of the run and should strip a lot fitter this time, for his return to Sha Tin.  He made steady headway over the final 3 furlongs last time out and looks well suited for this step up in trip. Grant van Niekerk takes the mount for the first time and if overcoming another tricky barrier, he’ll be involved in the finish.

Race 3 – 07:15
Selections: 1 – 14 – 8 – 6 – 10
FALCON TURBO has featured prominently in his three starts this season, since changing stables. He found a bit traffic in his latest outing, which came at a crucial stage of the race, causing him to race tightly in the closing stages. He may have gone a lot closer to winning and probably would’ve finished in front of TELEKOM ROCKET, who also lines up in this race. He has done everything but win in his four starts in this class and with van Nierkerk up this time, he should get it right. The latter lines up from a slightly trickier draw this time, but he too has shown up well in his three starts this season. He looks a worthy prospect to follow with Moreira in taking the mount and he’ll be big opposition to the top selection, having beaten him last time out. GOLDEN FOUR showed good improvement last time out, when having the blinkers removed. That was over this course and distance and Rispoli retains the ride. He knows this course and distance well and if repeating that latest effort, he’ll be right there. SUPER ALLIANCES will have plenty of scope for improvement after that encouraging debut over 6-furlongs. He will relish the extra ground here and if overcoming the draw, he’ll be a major threat. The tongue-tie goes on this time and he’s a must inclusion.

Race 4 – 07:45
Selections: 9 – 3 – 5 – 7 – 11
HAY RUN was a big improver last time when stepping up in trip on the All-Weather track. He was drawn wide in that run, after a fair effort on the Turf when also overcoming a wide draw. The 2-pound claiming Poon takes the ride this time as he drops back to the 1650m and lands a very useful draw to mount his challenge from. He has dropped to a competitive rating and if settling near the front like he did last time, he’ll be tough to beat. ENFOLDING has been knocking on the door for the winners’ box for a long time now and he has featured even more prominently since having the visor fitted in his last two starts. Zac Purton has finished second on him three times on the four occasions he has been engaged to ride the son of Fastnet Rock and from gate 3, he looks a big threat over this course and distance, where he has featured well before. GOLDEN MISSION showed up well in his second run after a rest last time out. That was when having the blinkers removed and landing a much-improved draw. He jumps from gate 11 this time, but he does have the gate speed to negate that wide draw and he’ll be looking to find cover near the front. With plenty of scope for improvement, he must be included. CALIFORNIA LEGEND steps on to this surface for the first time and he looks the likely front runner, as he does like to take the initiative on most occasions. The 10-pound claiming Chan takes the mount this time and from a slightly improved draw, he could be tough to peg back in the latter stages and must be included.

Race 5 – 08:15
Selections: 7 – 11 – 14 – 5 – 10
SUPER JUNIOR has been in good form of late and he finds another useful draw down the straight, after mounting a fair challenge from gate 11 last time. He is a very consistent performer over this course and distance and although he hasn’t won in this class, he has gone close on a few occasions. He runs well for this jockey and he has a great chance of picking up his third career win here. JUMBO PRIZE has been un ultra-consistent form and being a front-running speedster, he is going to enjoy this drop to the 1000m. From gate 2, he will need to track right across, but with this being his peak run he will be cherry-ripe and should be right there in the finish. FANTASTIC FABIO is drawn on the right side of the starting stalls, for a drop to the minimum trip and that will suit his running style. He does like to set the fractions over the 6-furlongs and in recent times he just been caught in the closing stages. With this shorter trip, the chasing pack could come too late for the son of Hidden Dragon and as such, he’ll be worth including. LIGHTNING STAR gave a decent account of himself on his local debut, despite finding a tough draw to overcome over 1200m. Down the straight, he is drawn on the right side and from a relatively handy position, he should give a lot of cheek in the closing furlong and he’s a must inclusion.

Race 6 – 08:50
Selections: 2 – 13 – 4 – 1 – 3
COBY OPA has had an impressive start to his career and he clearly likes this surface, with a record of 3 wins from 5 attempts. He needed that comeback run last time out and he’ll strip a fitter horse this time, for this step up to the 1650m. He lands a very useful draw and will be reunited with Karis Teetan who knows him very well. He looks tough to oppose here. DEAL MAKER gave a good account of himself when stepping up to this class of opposition last time out. That was over this course and distance, for his second run back this term after an impressive win first up. From an improved draw, Moreira jumps aboard the son of Darci Brahma and with his course and distance record in mind, he rates a threat. VOLPINO showed up well when having his second run back this season. He ran on strongly in that run, after being dropped out from a wide draw. He should go close to finding the run of the race this time from gate 2 and with Shinn retaining the ride, he should be right there. WARM THE VOICE has his peak run after two good efforts back this season. He finished just behind the former last time out, after taking a hold of the bit and staying on well at the finish. He has a useful record over this course and distance and if settling better this time, he should be a factor.

Race 7 – 09:20
Selections: 3 – 1 – 9 – 4 – 7
NOTHINGILIKEMORE has faced tougher opposition in his last few starts and he hasn’t performed too badly. He clearly needed his last two runs, after returning from a 9-month absence in his penultimate start. He has an impeccable record over the 7-furlong trip and after the mile last time, he will relish dropping back to this trip. Drawn well for his peak run, he drops back to a class where he has won and placed twice from four attempts. With Shinn up for this outing, he looks a massive prospect at good value. CHAMPION’S WAY lines up at the start for the first time this season, after a 5-month absence from the course. He has had an impressive start to his career, landing in the winners’ box 6-times in his 7 attempts. He won his only attempt over this course and distance and if not too in need of the run, he’ll be right there with his regular rider in the irons from a good draw. FAST MOST FURIOUS has his second run back this term and he will be cherry ripe for his return to the same course and distance where he has a useful record. He finds a much-improved draw this time and with Purton retaining the ride, he’s one of the leading contenders to challenge for top honours. TIME TO CELEBRATE returns from a 4-month absence, after a consistent end to his last campaign. He has a useful record over this course and distance and gets the services of Teetan for his comeback run. He went very close to winning his last start and if repeating that effort, he’ll go close. The slight concern is that Moreira has opted for the stable companion, having ridden both of late.

Race 8 – 09:50
Selections: 7 – 1 – 6 – 10 – 14
CHEERFUL LEADER gave a good account of himself over the 1400m when stepping up to the trip in just his second start. The son of Helmet still has plenty of room for further improvement and he should relish the step up to the mile, from a useful draw. Chadwick retains the ride and he looks tough to beat with the expected improvement. SUNSHINE WARRIOR has been in solid form and the cheek-pieces clearly helped last time out, when going close despite being drawn wide. He has won in this class and if finding early cover from another tough draw, he should be involved in the finish. BLASTOISE was just touched off last time out when attempting this trip for the first time. He had a tough draw to overcome in that run and did well to box on well in the closing stages. From another wide barrier, he gets the services of Zac Purton and from off the early pace, he will be charging home late. A smooth passage through will aid his chances and he must go in. AEROFLASH has dropped another 2-points in the ratings and at this rate, his winning turn is just around the corner. The son of Rock N’ Pop has plenty of scope for improvement and he will be looking to leave the stalls in more of a determined manner, in contrast to his first three efforts, where he has been a bit ‘pedestrian’ out the gates. He is 4-pounds better off at the weights with the top-weight on their last start and must be in with an outside chance if improving.

Race 9 – 10:25
Selections: 8 – 9 – 12 – 3 – 1
I DO went close last time out when having his second start back this term. He had a tough draw to overcome and he lands a much-improved draw this time, with Purton retaining. He will relish the extra ground on offer, having placed second in his only attempt over this trip. The blinkers and hood come off this time and with the 5-pound favourable turnaround at the weights, for a 0.75 length defeat to HAPPY SEBRING last time, he looks tough to beat. SUPER ELEGANCE finished just behind the top selection last time out, continuing that useful form he had at the end of his last campaign. He will strip a lot fitter for this slight step up in trip and from a good draw, he rates the biggest threat. He lines up just one pound better off at the weights with the top selection, for finishing 1.25 lengths behind him last time and he should improve further to fight this one out. CROWN AVENUE gave a solid account of himself last time out when having his peak run back after a rest. He has been in ultra-consistent form of late and he was clearly up to the tougher task last time, having jumped up from the Class 4 level. Moreira takes the ride and he must be included. HAPPY SEBRING beat the top two selections last time out when returning for his second run back this season. He lands a wide draw here and with the unfavourable weight turn-around, as mentioned above, it is unlikely that he will repeat that last win this time. With that said, he is in solid form and must be included.

Race 10 – 11:00
Selections: 9 – 3 – 10 – 8 – 2
EVERYONE’S JOY has shown up well in his short career so far, having won both of his first two starts before following up well when rising to this class. He would’ve needed his last start when returning from a rest and he should strip a lot fitter this time. With the tongue tie on, he regains the services of Purton who rode him in his first three starts. Having gone close over this course and distance already, he should relish the step up in trip and looks the one to beat. SUPER STAR loves this course and distance, having won three from four over this track and trip. Two of those victories have come in this class and he looks to be on his way up. He won last time out when returning from a rest and surprisingly, he was reported to have traces of blood in his trachea in the pull-up. The same occurred in his penultimate start, which does raise a few concerns. With that said, Moreira sticks with the ride and he looks a threat. LAKESHORE EAGLE has shown up well in his 5-starts so far, having won in this class which happened to be in his penultimate start. He steps up slightly in trip and he should strip a much fitter horse, having gone close to winning on his return to racing last time. Leung retains the ride and from another good draw, he should be involved in the finish. BEAUTY LOYAL followed up his maiden win in Singapore at the end of last season, with two good runs when returning this term. He will be cherry ripe for this outing, with this being his peak run and he lands an improved draw here. He is effective over this course and distance and with the 10-pound claiming Chan in the irons, he looks a big danger.
