UK Racing Best Bets - Saturday 2 November 2019

UK Racing Best Bets

Neil Morrice walks you through the front runners for Saturday's racing at Ascot, Newmarket and Wetherby

Ascot Best Bets

Race 3: JAMMY GEORGE (4)
Trainer: Harry Whittington
Jockey: Daryl Jacob

Chase debutant JAMMY GEORGE has always been considered a horse that will find his forte over fences. This two and a quarter mile trip is possibly on the short side for him, but with his stable in rattling form he has to be the pick. He was very impressive when last seen over hurdles and has schooled beautifully.

Trainer: Tom George
Jockey: Jonathan Burke

This stable were on the target with Black Op earlier in the week and in CLONDAW CASTLE they have a similarly progressive individual who can figure in the outcome of an admittedly warm looking heat. The gelding scored at Cheltenham and Aintree last season, and though coming up short in Grade 1 novices on his final two outings has been doing everything right at home ahead of this seasonal reappearance. He’s fit enough to do himself justice and looks the type to follow in big handicap chases in the run up to Christmas.

Race 5: MAN OF PLENTY (9)
Trainer: Mrs S Leech
Jockey: Sean Houlihan

Though getting a bit long in the tooth, MAN OF PLENTY might be worth chancing for a massive upset in a race where there are four Place dividends. He’s been on the go so has fitness on his side and wasn’t beaten that far in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las last time. Having been in the money in a number of big handicap hurdles over the past two seasons he can again stay on into the frame.

Newmarket Best Bets

Trainer: Roger Teal
Jockey: Jack Mitchell

KENZAI WARRIOR gets the vote in this rescheduled Horris Hill Stakes having missed out when its usual host Newbury was abandoned last week. Conditions will not be as testing but that shouldn’t deter anyone from supporting this unbeaten colt who greatly Impressed when scoring 9n his debut at Salisbury in a race that has worked out particularly well.

Race 6: SEPARATE (7)
Trainer: Richard Hannon
Jockey: Andrea Atzeni

Having looked an improved filly in her last three racecourse visits, SEPARATE can give Hannon a boost before he saddles Billesdon Brook at the Breeders’ Cup. She will relish the uphill run from the Bushes to the winning line just as she did when staying on for third in a Group 3 over course and distance last month.

Wetherby Best Bets

Race 3: LADY BUTTONS (1)
Trainer: Phil Kirby
Jockey: Adrian Nicol

Last year’s winner LADY BUTTONS is a mare to have on your mind for another good season both over hurdles and fences. Although her best recent form has been as a chaser, she landed a Grade 2 hurdle at Doncaster in January and was fourth in the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham. She’s a strong traveller that jumps well and has everything in her favour.

Race 5: BALLYANDY’s (3)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston -Davies
Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

This Grade 2 hurdle is a hum dinger with the key being BALLYANDY’s first attempt at going three miles. The former Festival Bumper winner had a lean time in his second season over jumps with a chasing career put on hold, but over hurdles he came back to go close in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival, while he needed his comeback outing at Chepstow from which he can show significant improvement.
