Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: T Matsoele - Trainer: A Fortune

This is a competitive workriders race to start the days proceedings. The narrow first selection goes to SINGLE RED ROSE from the Ashley Fortune stable. The daughter of Philanthropist has earned a cheque each time she has raced. She showed plenty of speed in her last start, but was carried in from the 200m mark and should have finished closer as a result. Her workrider Tshepiso Matsoele rode in her second start and the pair finished a creditable third. Her pilot is riding with a lot of confidence and the pair should find themselves in the winners enclosure.

Race 2: CAPITIANA (11)
Jockey: G Lerena - Trainer: G Woodruff

CAPITIANA produced a promising debut when finishing second behind Celestial Fire. She showed pace that day and still managed to find a kick at the finish. The daughter of Captain Of All would have come on from the experience and would have strengthened up during her break. Her conditioner is a master at bringing his horses back to the races fit and well for their return. Gavin Lerena keeps the ride and the pair may be hard to peg back in the closing stages.

Race 5: IKIGAI (7)
Jockey: R Danielson  - Trainer: S Tarry

IKIGAI followed up his debut win with a good second-place finish, six weeks ago. He moved up well that day and tried hard. It must be noted that the form of that run has been franked. The son of Vercingetorix takes a drop in distance this afternoon which shouldn't pose a problem. The manner in which he won on debut suggests that he may be above average and there should be plenty more to come.

Race 10: HAWTHORN (9)
Jockey: C Murray -  Trainer: M de Kock

HAWTHORN was very impressive when winning her maiden at Turffontein, ten weeks ago. She was 10.1 lengths behind the leader at the 400m mark that day and produced a powerful finish to get up on the line. She takes a rise in class this afternoon, but the daughter of Flower Alley will be at home over the ten furlongs and she can notch up the double.

Race 3: EMERALD CHEST (11)
Jockey: S Khumalo - Trainer: A Laird

EMERALD CREST made a fair debut when drawn widest of all. She was green and shifted away from the crop. However, she made eye-catching steady progress to finish 3.1 lengths behind subsequent winner Querari Ferrari. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight will enjoy stepping up to the seven furlongs this afternoon. She would have gained from the experience and should make the natural improvement. She gets the services of in form jockey S'manga Khumalo which is a big plus.
