Third T20I: India vs West Indies Preview

 India vs West Indies Preview
India could not match their chasing intensity when asked to set the West Indies a target in the second match of the series.

The Windies got a much-needed lifeline at Greenfield stadium and will now need to get up for the decider at the Wankhede.

Third T20I | Wednesday 12 December 2019 | Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai | 15:30

To Win
India 46/100
Tie 35/1
West Indies 17/10

India's potent top-order misfired for once in the second T20I which allowed their opponents back into the series but under Virat Kohli, the team usually bounce back very quickly.

What the second match of the series illustrates is that even when playing at home, it is vital to assess the pitch correctly and adjust your game. India gave in to frustration on a surface that didn't play as true as they might have hoped.

India need to find a better balance between attack and defence or at the very least identify which West Indies bowlers to target for a release of pressure.

Shivam Dube's half-century was easy on the eye and adds another dimension to the debate over where Kohli's best position in the T20I batting order is, having teed off from number three.

Yuzvendra Chahal found himself targeted by the West Indies batsmen and it isn't the first time he has been put to the sword in the shortest format of the international game.

West Indies
Lendl Simmons may have won the man of the match award last time out after taking control of the chase but the Windies owe their bowlers a debt of gratitude.

Kesrick Williams showed why he is among the best in the world in T20 cricket and claimed the prize scalp of Kohli. The bowlers managed to build pressure in a way they were unable to in the series opener in Hyderabad.

The West Indies are a dangerous side but they are also inconsistent. The defending T20 World Champions need to work on stringing together their best performances both in individual matches and in series and tournaments.

Kieron Pollard made better use of his bowlers as he continues to learn and grow as an international skipper.

Verdict: India 46/100
India should respond with fire.
