UK Racing Best Bets & Tips - Friday 20 December 2019

Jockey rides horse

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Friday's racing taking place at Ascot, Wolverhampton and Uttoxeter

Ascot Best Bets

Race 2: IT SURE IS (7)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson
Jockey: Nico de Boinville

The pre-Christmas Ascot fixtures have proved a happy hunting ground for the Henderson stable whose IT SURE IS has very solid claims on his second start over hurdles. He did little wrong when chasing home the more experienced Sevarano at Newbury and should be wiser and sharper now.

Race 5: KOZIER (10) (Each Way)
Trainer: Alan King
Jockey: Alexander Thorne

By far the least exposed horse amongst the ten runners, KOZIER can endorse the promise of his comeback run at Exeter by going one better. He was easy to back and looked to be just in need of the outing, but nevertheless made a race of it with Eclair Surf. He will receive good handling from the saddle and should get into the shake-up.

Race 7: BADDESLEY (2) (Each Way)
Trainer: Chris Gordon
Jockey: Tom Cannon

Although this is a big step up the class ladder, BADDESLEY is a horse of infinite promise and must not be taken lightly. He landed the spoils with plenty up his sleeve when returning at Fontwell and has delighted his trainer in subsequent workouts. Several of his foes go into battle with their tail up, ensuring the selection starts at a double-figure price. From these, the main dangers look to be Soaring Glory and Israel Champ.

Wolverhampton Best Bets

Race 4: SPREADSHEET (6)
Trainer: Jim Boyle
Jockey: Charlie Bennett

Although he’s proving costly to follow a final chance is given to SPREADSHEET to deliver the goods. He was turned over when long odds-on at Sandown in September but has been given plenty of time to prepare for a winter campaign, while his trainer now equips him with a hood. He has a good draw from which to attack, and if getting onto the lead should prove hard to pass.

Race 5: DOVILS DATE (5) (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Vaughan
Jockey: David Probert

Veteran DOVILS DATE was in unstoppable form when last seen on the Flat and though that was close to 800 days ago he has been in good form over hurdles recently, so will lack for nothing in fitness. His trainer has his team in very good order, and a big run at a big price could be on the cards.

Race 6: STAKE ACCLAIM (2)
Trainer: Dean Ivory
Jockey: Adam Kirby

STAKE ACCLAIM has hinted for a few runs that he’s on the cusp of a return to the winner’s circle and today could be his day. While he has yet to win at this venue he ran a solid race in this grade at Lingfield and can make the necessary improvement to get his head in front now moved up to six furlongs.

Uttoxeter Best Bet

Race 4: ONE STYLE (4)
Trainer: Venetia Williams
Jockey: Charlie Deutsch

Over a much longer trip, ONE STYLE came home unchallenged at Hereford last week amidst a flurry of winners for his trainer. That followed a lengthy layoff but visually the selection has taken it in his stride and should go in again.

Race 5: BARD OF BRITTANY (2)
Trainer: Sheena West
Jockey: Marc Goldstein

This stable does well with cast-offs from the Mick Channon yard and BARD OF BRITTANY is a case in point. He finished second to Dorking Boy at Taunton last month, doing his best work at the finish. It was a better race than this, and the 5yo is entitled to the greatest respect.

Race 6: STORM WIZARD (2)
Trainer: Venetia Williams
Jockey: Charlie Deutsch

STORM WIZARD left previous form behind when storming home at Bangor last week for which he is burdened with a 7lb penalty. His stable can do little wrong, he’s reported to have come out of it well and can take the spoils on 5he wa6 to better things.
