German Bundesliga: Gameweek 19 Preview

Soccer player acrobatically volleys the ball

It was a profitable return to the German Bundesliga this past weekend after successfully tipping seven out of nine clashes. Leipzig are leading by four points at the summit, followed by Bayern Munich, Monchengladbach and Dortmund. An exciting round of football is expected, so let’s cut the small talk and get down to business.

Friday 24 January

Dortmund 3/10
Draw 47/10
Cologne 15/2
Borussia Dortmund ran riot at Augsburg last weekend, winning 5-3 in what was a cracking eight-goal thriller. Cologne have been in top form with four wins on the spin, scoring eight goals and conceding only three times. I’m expecting another goal fest on Friday night with both sides in good shape. The Totals – Over 2.5 Goals – market is tipped at 7/20.

Saturday 25 January

Monchengladbach 11/20
Draw 7/2
Mainz 17/4
Monchengladbach have managed just one win from their last four matches which has put a dent in their title chase.

Mainz have been dismal with five losses from their last six matches in all competitions. Although the hosts have struggled in recent matches, they have won the last three meetings against Mainz and are expected to build on that. The home win is tipped.

Wolfsburg 17/20
Draw 26/10
Hertha Berlin 32/10
Wolfsburg have been poor of late with two defeats on the bounce, scoring once and conceding five times. Hertha Berlin were hammered 4-0 on home soil against a rampant Bayern Munich side and will be desperate to turn things around with relegation is strong possibility. A cagey, tight and tactical matchup is on the cards. A low-scoring contest is my prediction with the Totals – Under 2.5 Goals – market tipped at 9/10.

Eintracht Frankfurt 3/1
Draw 31/10
Leipzig 15/20
Eintracht Frankfurt ended a three-match losing streak last time out with a hard-fought 2-1 victory away to Hoffenheim.

Leipzig have been in top form as they remain unbeaten in their last 13 games with 10 wins in all competitions. The Red Bulls are actually short in price for my liking so in pursuit of value, I’m going to get on one of the exotic markets. Both Halves Over 1.5 Goals – Yes – looks well worth a punt at 5/2.

Freiburg 15/20
Draw 3/1
Paderborn 31/10
Freiburg are coming off a hard-earned impressive 2-1 victory away to Mainz and will be looking to build on that here.

Basement-dwellers Paderborn have been terrible at home with five losses from eight matches. Freiburg won the reverse tie 3-1 and offer good value to bag maximum points. Back the hosts to pull the double over Paderborn.

Union Berlin 11/10
Draw 49/20
Augsburg 47/20
Union Berlin’s three 3-1 expected defeat at Leipzig last weekend was their third loss on the trot. They will play host to Augsburg who were beaten 5-3 in front of their own fans at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. However, Augsburg showed their fighting spirit against BVB and should be in with a chance here. The away Win/Draw Double Chance is tipped at 7/10.

Bayern Munich 2/11
Draw 6/1
Schalke 12/1
Bayern Munich have been outstanding with four consecutive wins, scoring 15 goals and conceding just twice. Schalke are undefeated in their last four matches, including a 2-0 win at home against Monchengladbach last weekend. However, the Bavarians should be too strong for the Royal Blues. Bayern Munich are tipped on the Half-time/Full-time win at 5/10.

Sunday 26 January

Werder Bremen 27/20
Draw 27/10
Hoffenheim 18/10
Werder Bremen ended a disappointing four-game losing streak with a hard-earned 1-0 win away to Dusseldorf. Hoffenheim were defeated 2-1 on home soil against Eintracht Frankfurt, putting an end to a two-match winning run. Both sides will come into this fixture with the goal of securing maximum points. Get on the Totals – Over 2.5 Goals – market at 5/10.

Bayer Leverkusen 4/10
Draw 4/1
Dusseldorf 6/1
Bayer Leverkusen have been impressive of late with back-to-back wins, scoring five goals and conceding just once. Relegation-bound Dusseldorf have lost five of their last seven games as they wallow in 17th place. I’m expecting the hosts to have a field day on Sunday evening. Take Bayer Leverkusen on the Half-time/Full-time win at 9/10.

TREBLE @ 7/2
Monchengladbach Win 11/20
Freiburg Win 15/20
Augsburg Win/Draw 7/10
