High-flying Dolphins face tough Warriors test

Keshav Maharaj of the Hollywoodbets Dolphins

Durban – Following a near flawless start to the Momentum One Day Cup for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins, the second half of the campaign kicks off with a showdown against the Warriors at the Pietermaritzburg Oval on Sunday.

The KZN men have won four of their first five games in the competition and have picked up two bonus points along the way to sit at the top of the log, however they have played one game more than the chasing Imperial Lions.

The Warriors are sitting in third place on the log with two wins, two losses and a washout to their name and Dolphins assistant coach Quinton Friend knows they are a good white ball unit.

“It’s going to be another tough game this Sunday because we know the Warriors are always a good side,” Friend said. “They have brought in Eddie Moore who has got off to a good start and is a danger man up the order.

“They have got a well-balanced side with some really good batters and a lot of experience in their bowling line-up with the likes of Andrew Birch who has been around for a long time.

“We just need to make sure we have good game plans in place against a pretty good bowling attack.”

The Dolphins managed to defend what could have been seen as a below par 183 at Newlands mid-week and Friend is satisfied with how the bowlers have shaped up in the tournament so far.

“It has been very promising from the bowling unit, they have been absolutely superb throughout the tournament so far.

“The whole squad is still very positive but the players are trying to remain calm and we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We are just taking it game for game at the moment and we want to make sure we build on this start.

“It’s always nice to be at the top of the log but we want to take care of all the small things and maintain a good culture within our squad.”

The Dolphins lost to the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras via the Duckworth/Lewis method in their only game at the Pietermaritzburg Oval so far this season and will be hoping to put that right on Sunday.

Captain Keshav Maharaj has been a stand-out for the Dolphins this season with both bat and ball while Grant Roelofsen continues a magic start to his Dolphins white ball career.

The first ball will be bowled at 09:30 and tickets are available at www.ticketpros.co.za.
