Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET FOR TODAY
Race 1: PHINDA MZALA (7)
Jockey: P Strydom - Trainer: C Binda

PHINDA MZALA showed good improvement in his last start over 1160m, one week ago. The manner in which he has finished off his races suggests that he will enjoy the step up to the 1450m. Piere Strydom rides from a mid-field draw and the pair may find themselves in the winners enclosure.

Race 6: ODEN (3)
Jockey: G Lerena - Trainer: G Terzi

ODEN has not finished too far off the winner in his last two starts. He stayed on well at the finish of his last start over seven furlongs. His penultimate run was good over the 1100m as he lost a length at the start, but recovered well to run on strongly at the business end. He is back over his favourite distance as he is unbeaten from three starts over this trip. He does have a wide draw to contend with, but he gets the services of Gavin Lerena and he will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 8: REBEL'S CHAMP (1)
Jockey: W Kennedy - Trainer: S Tarry

REBEL'S CHAMP lost a length at the start in KZN last time, but finished his race off best of all to notch up the win. His record over today's distance is very good with seven wins, two seconds and two third place finishes from 22 starts. Warren Kennedy knows the son of Rebel King well and the pair will be mowing down the frontrunners in the closing stages.

Race 9: MARSHALL FOCH (1)
Jockey: W Kennedy - Trainer: P Peter

MARSHALL FOCH showed good guts and determination to win his last start over the mile, five weeks ago. He set the pace that day and fought back well under a strong ride by the in-form Warren Kennedy. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. If showing that same grit as he did in his last start, he may be hard to overhaul this afternoon.

VALUE BET
Race 5: KRATOS POWER (5)
Jockey: R Danielson - Trainer: W Marwing

KRATOS POWER is the value bet on the afternoon. He had his first run for the Marwing stable last time. He was making steady progress that day which suggests that he will enjoy the step up to the mile. He has to contend with another wide draw, but jockey Raymond Danielson will know him better and he will let the son of Gimmethegreenlight does his best work late on in the race.
