UK Racing Best Bets - Wednesday 19 February 2020

Jockeys ride horses

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from UK Racing at
Doncaster, Ludlow, Kempton Park and Newcastle.

Doncaster Best Bets

Race 1: DANNY KIRWAN (6)
Trainer: Paul Nicholls
Jockey: Harry Cobden

Although the experienced pair Sevarano and Igor are respected, this looks a race in which DANNY KIRWAN can stamp his authority on the way to better things. The 7yo went onto the injury list after chasing home the top class Angels Breath at Ascot and returns after more than a year off. He’s been working with all his old enthusiasm and can get favourite backers off to a good start.

Race 2: I’M A STARMAN (9) (Each Way)
Trainer: Mark Rimell
Jockey: Tom Bellamy

The unexposed I’M A STARMAN has skipped a handful of possible comeback races waiting for the better ground he’ll encounter on the Town Moor today. The holding ground found him out at the end of his handicap debut at Carlisle in December, but it was an encouraging run and can be stepped upon.

Race 3: ALLART (1)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson
Jockey: Nico de Boinville

ALLART is a very promising novice who should be followed and it will be a major shock if he can’t deliver and boost his trainer’s fine record at this course. The 6yo could hardly have been more impressive when opening his account at Ludlow. His turn of foot will surely see him back in the winner’s circle here.

Race 6: ADRIMEL (1)
Trainer: Tom Lacey
Jockey: Nico de Boinville

Another seeking better ground is ADRIMEL who was pulled out at Newbury the other day. The 5yo has looked one of the best bumper horses around and should put another success on the board as his connections ponder the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals. This has been won by some high-class horses including Black Op and he can show he’s in the same league.

Ludlow Best Bets

Race 2: CHILLI FILLI (3)

Trainer: Henry Daly
Jockey: Tom O’Brien

Locally trained CHILLI FILLI should be too good for Dame du Soir getting 6lv from that penalised foe. The selections started outsider of 4 in a warm mares’ race at Warwick but looked set to give odds-on Sensulano plenty to think about when departing at the final fence. As long as that spill hasn’t dented her confidence the 7yo can make amends.

Race 4: AYE AYE CHARLIE (1) (Each Way)
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien
Jockey: Mr Liam Harrison

AYE AYE CHARLIE is a winner waiting to happen and can prove the value option in a race that looks much harder than to one he was set to contest at abandoned Hereford last week. He’s been trying to compete with some of the top novices and acquitting himself with credit. He now finds himself up against in form rivals such as One Style but can reward Each Way support.

Race 5: MUCKAMORE (4)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies
Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

MUCKAMORE can become the first winner for a syndicate headed by former Jockey Noel Fehily. The former point-to-point winner gave Imperial Alcazar plenty to think about on his debut under Rules at Leicester and is going to relish the step up to three miles.

Kempton Park Best Bets

Race 2: DARTINGTON (3)
Trainer: Marcus Tregoning
Jockey: Mark Dwyer

DARTINGTON was the subject of support before keeping on into the money in a Lingfield maiden last month which makes him the one to beat in a race where he holds the experience card. With two runs under his belt, he will hopefully know too much for a couple of well-related newcomers.

Newcastle Best Bets

Race 3: STRAIGHT RIGHT (6)

Trainer: Andrew Balding
Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa

Winner of this in 2018, STRAIGHT RIGHT came out of a quiet spell to land a Class 2 at Kempton and displayed a telling turn of foot. The 6yo entire looked on the way back to his best and could give the likes of Librisa Breeze and Oh This Is Us plenty to think about.

Race 4: DESERT SAFARI (2)
Trainer: Mark Johnston
Jockey: Joe Fanning

This stable is making hay with the better class horses it runs in the good all-weather races and DESERT SAFARI is among that number. A dual scorer as a juvenile, he couldn’t match Temple Of Heaven here in the autumn but has matured both manually and physically in the interim.
