UK Racing Tips - Monday 24 February 2020

Jockeys ride horses

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Monday's racing at Southwell and Wolverhampton.

Southwell Best Bets
Race 1: KOMMANDER KIRKUP (6) (Each Way)
Trainer: Michael Herrington
Jockey: Tom Eaves

A hold up horse for whom everything has to drop right, KOMMANDER KIRKUP prefers the deeper surface here and can step up on a respectable effort over this trip on Tapeta last time. He should get a nice tow into the contest and get into the money at the business end.

Race 3: IN DEMAND (6)
Trainer: Roger Charlton
Jockey: Jason Watson

From a stable whose runners here are infrequent, IN DEMAND did more than enough when in the money at Kempton last month to earn the vote in this stayers’ handicap. He stepped up on previous efforts to trouble the judge in a big field, an effort that can now be improved into winning form.

Race 6: EQUIDAE (3)
Trainer: Iain Jardine
Jockey: Tom Eaves

A confirmed front runner who has the perfect draw from which to attack, EQUIDAE can back up his impressive display over seven furlongs here last week. As a well-backed favourite he never looked like being caught and this return to a mile won’t bother him either.
Wolverhampton Best Bets
Race 5: DAZZLING DARREN (6)
Trainer: Gavin Cromwell
Jockey: Kieren O’Neill

A tendency to pull through the early stages couldn’t stop DAZZLING DARREN at Lingfield last week and he’s very much the one to beat in this hat-trick mission. With the race not working out for him he did well to score a shade snugly in the end, giving the impression there’s more to come, especially if he consents to settle.

Race 7: BEAU GESTE (13)
Trainer: Tony Carroll
Jockey: Hollie Doyle

Considering things didn’t work out for him in the early stages over track and trip two weeks ago, BEAU GESTE nevertheless scored with a bit in hand and back in the same grade appeals as a well-treated horse. Switched in order to get cover at the start, he hung when making his bid in the straight without which he would have scored by a wider margin. In this big field, he’s drawn to get a position behind the pace from which he can attack.
